Happy Easter!

This week YAMU learnt of a rebellion in the Burger Kingdom – a group of defectors from the venerable Burger’s King’s fled their Slave Island court and set up shop in the lowly ‘burbs, ie. Dehiwala. They’re actually pretty good. We also visited South Asia’s ‘first ever underwater tunnel’; it’s in Biyagama and the tunnel is, er, brief. Finally, we were delighted to discover YouTube hero JehanR’s Malu Paan graph – made using data from our Malu To Paan Ratio post.

Burger’s Hut – With every good kingdom comes conflict, and division has occurred in Slave Island. A group of Burger’s King defectors stormed out of Vellons Passage and set up Burger’s Hut, an almost identical burger joint in Dehiwala. Honestly, I can’t tell the difference. If anything, the Hut’s meaty wares seem slightly plumper and juicier… and they’re much more conveniently located for people in the suburbs.

Namaste – Sticking with the southern end of the ‘burbs, a new restaurant has opened up in Nugegoda. Nugegoda? It’s true. There’s air conditioning, parking, everything. Unfortunately, however, this recent addition to the mad shopping district isn’t really an edifying one. Namaste, while nice, serves rather poorly executed Northern Indian cuisine. But they’re new, so hopefully things will improve…

Isha Water Park (Uppaveli) – Isha Water Park. It’s great – it’s like being at Alton Towers all by yourself – and you know what that means: no queues. Imagine a whole world of watery slides and rides minus the hoardes of screaming children and sweaty men… This could be fun.

Water World – Remember reading about this in the papers – South Asia’s First Ever Underwater Tunnel? Apparently it is. And it’s actually not that bad, except the tunnel is rather short and, well, it’s in Biyagama. But it could be worth a trip – the Bird Park next door is nice.

JehanR, currently Sri Lanka’s most eligible bachelor, made a graph using our Malu To Paan Ratio, showing how much malu is in various paans in a management consultant friendly format. It’s great.

KARAMU – Events

Not too much going on this week. Geoffrey Dobbs’ Serendip Coast Festival tapers off towards Sunday and the Colombo International Theatre Festival is still on. There’s also an art exhibition at The Austrlian High Commission called “”Message Stick: Indigenous Identity in Ubran Australia”” that looks quite interesting.

Have a great week!
