Samagi Cream House And Food Corner.

If you’re looking for a good rice and curry in Mirissa and really, why wouldn’t you be, Samagi is the spot. It’s also striking because it’s a regular buth kade … full of tourists. It’s more expensive that your usual rice and curry (Rs. 300 for chicken) but it’s good, it’s near swimmable beach, and we were able to serve ourselves.

The Food

The rice and curry is good. We had the usual fixings, beet root, malum, purippu, and ladies fingers, plus your choice of chicken or fish. The chicken was goodly sized also. We were told that they normally serve you, but we were able to serve ourselves (always a bonus). They were doing so much business they’d actually run out of plates.

They also do rotis, short-eats, the usual. It’s all quite good. It’s better than average kade fare, but what makes it different is that it’s in Mirissa, where a lot of places have degenerated to serving boring fried rice and boiled vegetables. Samagi food isn’t compromised at all, it’s still spicy, still traditional, still good.

Location

Samagi is on the Galle Road past the Mirissa Beach Road turnoff and before Palm Villa. It’s walking distance from swimmable beach.

Service

The service is like a regular kade, which is to say excellent. The place is full of tourists but they don’t seem to have changed how they treat people.

Conclusion

Mirissa food options are somewhat lacking. If you’re craving a solid rice and curry, this is the place. It’s not cheap, but this is a tourist town, so that’s the market.
