March sucks for holidays. Poya falls on a Sunday, which is lame. April, however, is full of holidays (Avurudu, Good Friday) so it all works out.

Places To Be: At work. On regular weekends, Negombo to Tangalle coast still enjoys good weather and should be swimmable down south. It’s good time to visit Kandy and the Cultural Triangle.
Places Not To Be: As much as Sri Lankan weather is predictable, March is one of the best months around the whole island.
Places To Celebrate
Medin Poya (when the Buddha returned to his family) is celebrated in temples throughout the island. Kelaniya has a large temple near the city and Anuradhapura and Kandy are beautiful cultural towns.
Where The Animals Are
Uda Walawe (last bit of migrating birds), Wilpattu, Horton Plains, Sinharaja, Wasgamuwa, Bundala, Knuckles.
