If a decade ago you asked me where to find the most delicious chocolate cake in Colombo, I would have suggested The Fab’s Chocolate Fudge cake. Anyway, thanks to Colombo's immense number of home bakers and cake shops, we don't have to stick to the same place over and over again. We've got a LOT of options now, from flavors to cake types, Colombo's cake scene is damn strong.
Ever since we did Colpetty's Chocolate Cake Contest, we constantly find ourselves at The Cake Factory down 5th Lane, for a slice of their Chocolate Treat cake. Or, let me put it in this way – we come here for the PERFECT chocolate cake in town.
At Rs. 400, The Cake Factory's Chocolate Treat cake is a real treat indeed. Constructed with two layers of ooey gooey chocolatey goodness, and a vanilla-like frosting slathering in the middle, it's glazed with a delicious ganache layer as well.
The cake itself is moist, spongy and decadent with chocolate, boosted by the ganache layer, which also makes an extra contribution to the sweet component of the cake. There's a blob of chocolate icing on top, which I do not prefer as it's too sugary for my liking, but if you've got a sweet tooth, it makes for an extra sweet addition.
The Chocolate Treat cake at The Cake Factory is pure chocolate bliss. I have never had so many slices of chocolate cake from one place before, and you won't too – if you ever have had a bite of this.
