Cinnamon Lakeside Ifthar (2014).

Cinnamon Lakeside has an ifthar deal this Ramadan – that for Rs. 2500, you’ve got an all you can eat buffet. The food is alright, and the spread is average.

Food

The meats they had included prawns, chicken, beef and salmon, the latter in different preparations. The dip was tasty, and so was the beef and the prawns. The seafood was unfortunately not that palatable. We recommend you skip the samples and go straight for the main dishes.

The pasta was very tasty, very cheesy, and went well with the smoked beef. Most of the seafood in the main course was again a hit and miss – it was all just alright, save for the tasty ‘sole filet bonne femme sauce’ which is basically fish fillet (some of the food is prepared in the French style because of the French Festival taking place at the hotel these days). The chicken fillet in lemon and sage sauce was soft and well-done – you’re better off loading your plate with this than any of the seafood. They also had an interesting looking ‘octopus in red wine sauce’ dish available – which we thought, given the wine, was a little bit of a faux pas at an ifthar.

They had a limited array of cakes and puddings in the desserts department, the strawberry charlotte, little cubes of strawberry flavoured pudding with biscuit, were quite good. The wattalapam was okay, not as cooling or sweet as it ideally must be. We are always on the look-out for superb eclairs – and we surprisingly found them at the Cinnamon Lakeside ifthar. The eclairs are only about the size of your index finger (so just go slide 10 of them onto your plate) and the cream filling was fluffy and cool and very tasty – something that most bakeries are incapable of perfecting.

Ambience & Service

The Dining Room is warmly lit up and one is surrounded by the view of the main lobby and its large glowing chandeliers.

The view out by the poolside after Ifthar is beautiful, with the lake and the lights. Unfortunately you can’t see any of this from your table but you can always take a stroll outside after.

The waiters are polite but if you sit by the glass windows then it’s likely they’ll never find you, you have to wait there and wave your arms in the air and hope someone finds you at some point in the day. So make sure you get a seat somewhere in the middle of the room.

Conclusion

Cinnamon Lakeside’s ifthar is alright – the seafood is generally not that great, though we are a big fan of their prawns, pasta and mostly their eclairs. Whether it’s worth 2.5K is, however, debatable.
