Monster Cookies is a home baker that does a variety of cookies and since of late, brownies as well. We tried out some of their more interesting choices and we were all smiles.
The Cookies
Over the past couple of months we’ve covered brownies, cakes and cupcakes but we couldn’t find many cookie specialists. Enter Monster Cookies. It’s a small home baker that does a range of cookie toppings like smarties, marshmallows and peanut butter (Rs. 250 – Rs. 400 for a pack of 10). It’s a small place that operates out of a home in Wellawatte so take away is your only option here, and you need to call in and place your order a day in advance.
In general all of the cookies tasted good and you could see that it’s home-baked since they’ve got a rustic look to it. Our pick of the bunch was the chocolate chip and marshmallow cookies (Rs. 350 for 10). It had a great mix of texture with semi soft cookie, crunch of the chocolate chip, and the gooeyness of the melted marshmallows.
A close second was the smarties cookie (Rs. 400 for 10). Smarties on their own are pretty awesome but combined with a well baked cookie, it just becomes that much better.
Another one of their popular sellers is apparently their iced sugar cookies (Rs. 250). This is more like your conventional butter biscuit with icing on top. They come in heart shapes but if you would like it in any other shape, all you need to do is let them know.
If you’re a chocolate lover, you should definitely go for their double chocolate chip cookie (Rs. 350), which is a chocolate cookie with chocolate chips. It’s super chocolatey and rich. Need I say more?
The last one we tried was the peanut butter cookie (Rs. 350). This one was a chocolate cookie topped with a peanut butter glaze. If you’re a fan of peanut butter this is definitely the one for you. It’s not overly sweet and the flavour of the peanut butter comes through very well.
Conclusion
We’re always excited to hear about new home run businesses and Monster Cookies fits the bill perfectly. Their cookies are yummy, the toppings are different and the price is very affordable.
