Frozen is a ‘gourmet’ ice cream place at Urban Kitchen, the food court at Hyde Park’s Arpico. They’ve got some interesting options on their menu.
The Menu
The tagline says ‘home made ice cream’, though personally the ice cream didn’t taste as creamy and as different as home made ice cream usually does. It was still tasty though, and the menu includes coconut, wild berry, frozen yoghurt and belgian chocolate among ordinary flavours, for Rs. 150. You can also get cool toppings like smarties, peanut butter and Milo.
We got three sundaes, because YOLO, son. Sundaes are all for around Rs. 300. The first was Rocky Road – peanut butter, marshmallows, roasted nuts, and chocolate ice cream. This was hands-down the winner of our orders. The peanut butter is really laid on thick, and along with the marshmallows in the ice cream, this was an absolute creamy, sticky treat.
The next was the Strawberry Sundae – ‘Very Strawberry’ ice cream with strawberry and almond flakes. It’s an extremely sweet dish, so not for the uninitiated, and the strawberry flavour is very strong as the name suggests.
The Frozen Sandwich sounded pretty cool – vanilla ice cream sandwiched between wafers and covered in chocolate sauce. But it is literally that: wafers with ice cream. Not really that great if you ask me – maybe if you have a thing for wafers.
Service & Ambience
This is inside the Urban Kitchen food court, so it’s just a big open space shared by the rest of UK’s large customer base. We personally prefer the sofa corner to the chairs. The Frozen counter is right when you walk into the complex, on your right – you make your order and get a seat, and the ice cream, and later the bill, comes to you. Service was prompt.
Conclusion
I’m a big ice cream fan, so if there’s a new place making ice cream, then they’ve got my full adoration. The ice cream at Frozen is alright, it’s generally not all that distinct from the ice cream we’re all used to, but the prices are good and we liked the creative options on their menu.
