10 Delicious Treats You Can Make During Self-isolation.

Homemade food is something that we all enjoy, but every once in a while, we tend to eat out, just for a change from the usual. However, with everything that has been going on with COVID-19, most of us are stuck at home, practising self-isolation.

We've been at that for almost a week now, and if you're tired of eating the usual rice & curry every day, take a break and give these recipes a shot. This is an opportunity to test your cooking skills and surprise your loved ones at home too. The ingredients here are simple, and the cooking process requires only a little time and effort, but they've got a whole load of flavours!

Fish Biriyani

We replaced meat with seer fish and crafted up a fish biriyani, and now we wish we could try it every day. It's aromatic, very flavourful and fishy in the best possible way.

Pani Roti

Ah, Pani Roti! What a sweet treat to pair with your evening cup of tea! Featuring a delicious filling made with melted kithul hakuru (or sugar), sago and grated coconut, these patty-shaped rotis are beautifully pan-grilled to give that lovely crisp from the outside. Make sure to add a couple of cinnamon sticks to the mixture for a flavour boost.

Hot Butter Cuttlefish

Hot Butter Cuttlefish is a Lankan staple and goes well with a side of fried rice. It's quite easy to make too, if you've got some cuttlefish, butter, spring onions, capsicum, garlic, dried chillies, spices, and flour (to make the batter, preferably tempura).

Isso Wade

We Lankans can write an ode to isso wade; because it's a way of life for us. Isso wade portrays a cross-section of our street food culture, and frankly, most of us go to Galle Face Green just to eat isso wade, more than anything else. One wade vendor based in Dehiwala was kind enough to share his take on this beloved streetside snack with us, along with that spicy paste that they put to make it taste more glorious.

Bacon Fried Rice

This smoky, spicy fried rice was an instant hit at our office. It's a lot of colours, and one doesn't need to describe the flavours when there's bacon.

Churros

Tossed in cinnamon sugar and drizzled with chocolate sauce, churros are a crispy delight, and making them is easier than one would think.

Beef Samosa

A golden-fried, crispy pocketful of warmth, packed to its brim with a mixture of spiced up beef, onions, garlic, coriander, Beef Samosa is another good accompaniment for your daily cup of tea. This recipe shows how its made in Arabian Knights's style.

Noodles Cocktail Mix

Got some instant noodles? Whip up this simple Noodles Cocktail Mix that you can munch on as you work from home.

Buffalo Chicken

Drenched in homemade buffalo sauce, these chicken wings are succulent, juicy and fall-off-the-bone soft. All you need is some yoghurt, vinegar, spices, hot sauce and of course, chicken to make this one.

Flourless Chocolate Cake

Don't worry about extra carbs because this delicious chocolate cake doesn't involve any, but it tastes incredible!
