Big Bad Wolf.

Big Bad Wolf has been around for a while now. Not to be confused with the world’s biggest book sale with the same name, this all-pork restaurant started as a pop-up store before settling down in their own little den in Nawala. We dropped in for a bite on a weekday afternoon.

Food & Drinks

Their menu consists of burgers, hot dogs, and wraps. They specialize in pork, so you can find pork in pretty much everything (obviously), except for the biscuit pudding which wasn’t available on the day we went.

We opted for a Bacon Burger (Rs. 780), Pork Belly Wrap (Rs. 750) and Kalupol Pork with Chapathi (Rs. 700). As for drinks, we got a Narang juice and a Passion Fruit juice (Rs. 275 each).

The Bacon Burger is almost similar to their pork burger, except they’ve replaced the lettuce with bacon. Tucked in between a soft, fresh bun, the bacon was cooked nicely with a hint of crispiness. It had a juicy patty to boot, topped with some caramelized onions – simple elements that add up to a good burger.

Upon our order, we were warned about the pork belly wrap being spicy, but we didn’t expect it to be that spicy. The abundance of capsicum and chilies kinda overpowered the meaty pork taste. If it weren’t for the fatty bits, we would’ve easily mistaken this for chicken.

We ended up unwrapping the wrap and picking out the pork pieces with a toothpick so we wouldn't die of a chili overdose!

Chapatis were cute-ishly made, with an almost see-through thickness; but tasted good. However, the kalupol pork wasn’t really a kalupol curry; it was just an ordinary pork curry with a good amount of chewy pork chunks and a lot of gravy. Nothing to write home about.

The narang and passion fruit juices were refreshing and tasted good. Both were on the sweeter side, but not overwhelmingly so.

Ambience and Service

The garden you're greeted with, through the narrow entrance, is beautiful and it must look even more so at night. Big Bad Wolf shares this place with Box-O-Noodles, so you can even get some noodles to go with your pork. You can bring your own beer and wine, but not hard liquor.

We went there on a very sunny afternoon, so it was bit of a struggle to find a table under the shade. But it was a pleasant place to sit, dine and have a chat. If it is too sunny or rainy, there are a few tables in the verandah, too.

Service was friendly and the lady in the kitchen took us through the menu while giving us details about what is in each and every dish. We were the only customers at the time, but it took over 20 minutes for the food to arrive.

Overall

Out of the dishes we tried out, we would only recommend the burgers. The prices are a bit steep so unfortunately, I don't see it becoming a regular spot for us. The garden is not a bad place to chill out, and you can always opt to the Box-O-Noodles’s menu if pork isn’t your thing.
