Happi Foods.

For obvious reasons, Happi Food leaves you with an uplifted feeling, from the moment you hear its name. So, we, naturally wanted to get ourselves there to indulge in some of the happi-ness they promise to serve.

And did they succeed? Let’s find out!

Food

Happi Foods is a part of Cajun on Wheels, that focuses on sourcing their ingredients from local suppliers to whip up some delicious Singaporean delicacies.

The menu at a glance can be a bit underwhelming as it only carries four rice dishes and three soups, and strangely no price tags. Later we found out that everything is priced at Rs. 600.

The Char Siew Chicken Rice came to us with a grilled, sparklingly red coloured chicken fillet alongside a mound of garlic rice and a few slices of tomato and cucumber. We also got tiny servings of soy sauce, spicy sauce and vegetable soup on the side.

Owing to our curiosity (we just couldn't help ourselves) and its eye-popping red colour, we nibbled on the chicken first and found ourselves delighted with its extremely marinated flavours. It was surprisingly sweet but not overwhelmingly so. Grilled to perfection with a hint of smokiness, it was a little tough from the outside, while the inside was juicy and tender.

Garlicky as promised, and not at all oily, the rice was paired well with the chicken. We had the soy sauce to bumping up the flavour profile while the spicy sauce gives a solid hot kick with a bit of bitterness.

The soup accompanying the dish was good too. It tasted like chicken stock with bits of veggies in it, and a slight tang at the end of the sip.

The La Mien Chicken Noodle Soup (Rs. 600) came in a hearty bowl, with noodles, steamed chicken and bits of veggies floating about. The broth gave us a rich flavour filled with a pleasant savouriness and the right amount of saltiness, while the spices and oiliness were kept exemplary.

La Mien noodles were soft, not sogged up and rich with flavour, as it had soaked up all the goodness from the broth. Everything was balanced so well, and you feel as if you are being given a warm hug from all the elements.

Drinks

While they don’t list out any drinks on their menu, you can check with them for fresh juices. We went with a Passion Fruit (Rs. 300) and a Lime Juice (Rs. 300)

Both of the juices were served chilled with ice cubes floating on top.

In the lime juice, there were plenty of fresh citrus notes present, with a sweet undertone from sugar and a slight bitterness at the end. The passion fruit juice followed suit. It had almost perfected its sour and sweet flavours, but we’d have liked a bit more hints of passion fruit in it. Sugar levels were perfect here, and none of them had any pulp, which we enjoyed very much.

Ambience & Service

Like we mentioned previously, Happi Food shares the same space as Cajun on Wheels, making it a bit confusing at first. However, you get the same relaxed ambience with vines going up on the glass and comfy chairs with plenty of lights. The place itself is enough to hold around 15 people at a time.

The waitstaff was polite and prompt, and we didn’t encounter any delays. They were quick to clarify any questions we had and well mannered.

This picture is from our Cajun on Wheels review about a year ago, and the place hasn't changed much since if any at all.

Conclusion

Happi Foods truly made us happy. It’s a clever option, really, and a place to dine at without making a hole in your wallet.
