Jasmine Song (Bambalapitiya).

Jasmine Song isn't necessarily new to the Chinese food scene in Sri Lanka. After putting down their roots in the hill country, they expanded to Colombo a few years ago. The initial restaurant was established in Mount Lavinia, but then they moved to a central location down Dickmans Road.

Food

What they serve here isn't exactly Chinese food with full-on authentic touch. It has a very Sri Lankan spin on it. A little head's up – their menu online might say that they serve pork, but the menu at the restaurant doesn't seem to have a clue of it.

The Jasmine Song Special Fried Rice (Rs. 900 for L) comes with a whole load of boiled chicken, beef, seafood and egg bits tossed in a generous serving of fluffy fried rice. They've kept the seasoning to a minimal, just salt to taste. Would've been nicer if they can add a pinch of pepper to it.
Although crunchy, not oily and seasoned with a sprinkle of chilli flakes, the Hot Butter Cuttlefish (Rs. 995 for S) was alright, but a wee bit chewy for our liking. Plus, they could've used more chilli flakes to spike up the flavour.

Diced chicken, soaked in a thick and tangy gravy, the Kung Pao Chicken (Rs. 820 for S) featured a good amount of cashew nuts. Hosting a deliciously mild spiciness, it was also teamed up with onions, spring onions and red chillis, which did a good job in enhancing its flavours. Out of the ones we tried, this was definitely the highlight of our meal.

Ambience & Service

The ambience here is no different from the Jasmine Song in Kandy. Black furniture against white walls and red Chinese lanterns hanging from the ceiling, it looks like a typical Chinese resto in Sri Lanka.

They seem to get a lot of delivery and takeaway orders. Despite that, they managed to provide our food within around 15 minutes. Quite impressive!

Conclusion

If you're looking for a toned down, yet decent portions of Chinese food to fill you up, Jasmine Song is a safe bet.
