Dips & Spreads.

If there was a contest to choose the number one dip in the world, hummus will give a good run to all those popular dips around the world. Packed with nutrients and flavours, hummus is comfort food for some, and a wonderful starter. However, we at YAMU would not mind having it as a main.

Dips & Spreads is a home-based venture who puts some interesting twists on this cherished Middle-eastern delicacy, and we are all for it!

Hummus is, in fact, one of the many things they do. They also whip up an array of energy bites, butter and nibbles as well.

How To Order

Ordering these goodies is quite hassle-free. You can reach out to them through their Instagram/Facebook pages, or simply drop a WhatsApp text to 071 791 0832. They deliver to your doorstep, and it's only Rs. 150 for deliveries within Colombo city limits.

The Hummus

We ordered two jars of Hummus – Classic (Rs. 350 for 200g) and Nai Miris (Rs. 450 for 200g).

Featuring a few chickpeas on top and a dusting of chilli powder (we assume), the Classic Hummus was simply brilliant. The texture here was incredibly smooth and we are quite impressed by the amount of olive oil they had infused in it. We scooped up every ounce of it with some paratha and pita bread.

Sharing the same excellent texture, the Nai Miris one is probably the best twist on hummus we've seen so far. It leaves a lovely spicy kick on the palate and we enjoyed dipping some Munchee Super Cream Crackers in this one.

Other Stuff

Lured by the promise of peanut butter and dark chocolate, we were excited for the Dark Choco Peanut Butter (Rs. 450 for 200g). The peanut counterpart is what demands your attention here, while hints of chocolate seeping through. It was a tad sweet for our liking, and a bit dense in texture too – but safe to say that it goes well with some freshly baked kadey paan

This is pure almond bliss! With chunks of almonds to go with every single bite, these Almond Bliss Bites (Rs. 650 for 200g) were soft, not very sweet, light and gave slight coconutty kicks. Plus you get eight of these for 200 grams, so there's plenty to share.

Conclusion

Dips & Spreads do not use any artificial flavours, colourings or preservatives in their stuff, which is one of the many reasons why we recommend them. From what we gathered, they also have pop-up sales from time to time – the latest one was at Brew 1867. So keep an eye on their Facebook page for the updates if you're planning to drop by and grab a jar or two of their superb hummus!
