Amazing Sri Lankan Recipe Bloggers – I.

Cooking in the age of social media, we tend to turn our back on cookbooks, and look for online sources. They're convenient, widely available, can be accessed from anywhere in the world, and honestly, there's hardly any recipe that you cannot find online.

Once limited to just cookbooks, newspaper columns, and word-of-mouth, Sri Lankan food recipes are finally getting the attention it deserves, all thanks to the technology, and the awesome Sri Lankan foodies around the world who make good use of that. There are many Sri Lankan cooks on the web and social media now, posting their recipes, baking tutorials, as well as important cooking tips and techniques. This has created a beautiful, friendly virtual community who shares their unfettered love for Sri Lankan food.

While exploring this amazing community, we managed to come across some impressive recipe bloggers (on the web), who put a lot of thought and effort into placing Sri Lankan cuisine on the global culinary map. So here, we have designed a new article series, dedicated just for them. If you know any Sri Lankan recipe bloggers, kindly email their website links to vishvi@yamu.lk.

And without any further ado, let's have a look at 8 of these highly appetising recipe blogs done by Sri Lankans. They will certainly lift up your mood, improve your cooking skills and make you hungry!

PeckishMe

www.peckishme.com

The face behind PeckishMe is Jayani C. Senanayake. As someone who comes from a long line of great cooks in her family, Jayani is quite the storyteller. The strong love she bears towards cooking, creating new recipes and the happiness of gorging on those incredible flavours, is perfectly portrayed by every word she blogs.

From usual rice & curry to beautiful pastries to spongy cakes and many other exquisite delicacies from all corners of the world, Jayani takes you on an exciting gastronomic adventure. Have a peek at her Instagram (@peckishme) for more of that.

Hungry Lankan

www.hungrylankan.com

Roshani Wickramasinghe is one Hungry Lankan. A self-taught cook (mostly), her journey of exploring the culinary world has begun after she moved to the United States.

I've been personally following her Instagram handle (@hungry_lankan) and blog for quite some time now, and I must say that her recipes are a silver bullet for the amateur cooks. They're very well presented, detailed, precise, and absolutely foolproof. So they're guaranteed to hit the mark of perfection, every time. Many foodies around the world seem to successfully recreate these recipes; especially baked goodies, which is enough testament to how accurate they are.

Healthy Sutra

www.healthysutra.co.uk

When you think of healthy food, what's the first thing that pops into your mind? For me, it's basically salads and greens. I mean, that's what they usually advertise. But one glance at Nisha's Healthy Sutra will certainly change your mind.

Nisha's passion for crafting up healthy recipes was inspired by her weight loss journey, a few years back. In her recipes, she shows how you can pull off a flavour-packed meal, in the healthiest way, using your day today ingredients. This includes healthy desserts, different curries, low-carb fast food and snacks.

She is also a Consultant for weight management, and does food photography and food styling. Right now, she resides in London, UK. If you have any inquiries, you can contact her via her Instagram profile (@healthysutra)

Bread, Broth & Brieyond

www.breadbrothandbrieyond.wordpress.com

Bread, Broth & Brieyond is Sav Perera's attempt to memorialise her mother's recipes. A Sri Lankan living in Australia, her hunger to conduct experiments in the kitchen has started when she was only a teenager. Sav's recipes are written to the point, clear and elaborated well. There are many pictures involved, which will have you drooling as she takes you through the process.

While Sav's main focus is on the Sri Lankan food side of things, she also adores baking. In fact, that's how her baking venture, Mad Batter By Sav came into being. Check out her Instagram handles – @madbatterbysav and @savisquishles for more pictures, recipes and details.

Podi Hands Cook

www.podihandscook.lk

With Podi Hands Cook, Erasha Hettige aims to preserve the family recipes that had been passed down to her through generations. The "Podi Hands" actually refers to her beloved daughter, who is already an enthusiastic little helper in her kitchen. It's such a wonderful display of how sentimental these recipes are to her.

Alongside the family recipes, Erasha ensures to document her very own recipes on the blog. She's keen on adding modern twists to the classic dishes, with the help of new gourmet ingredients she finds in the local market. Visit her Instagram (@podihandscook) if you wish to get in touch with her.

Food Voyageur

www.foodvoyageur.com

Through Food Voyageur, Rachi Fernandopulle shares a collection of easy, quick recipes that anybody can rely on. An ex-chef and a globetrotter, Rachi started her food voyage at the age of 18, and has trained under some of the best chefs in several popular international restaurants. She currently lives in Melbourne, Australia.

Rachi's recipes have an international touch to them, but she hasn't forgotten her roots. She often cooks Sri Lankan staples, while providing important tips and techniques to get that oomph of flavour, even with the limited number of ingredients you have in the kitchen. Her recipes are written in a very descriptive manner and include a video clip with step-by-step guidance. @food_voyageur is her Instagram handle.

The Food Snaps

www.thefoodsnaps.com

The Food Snaps by Anjala, is all about promoting healthy and nutritious dishes in the most flavourful and picturesque way. Her recipes include a selection of healthy sweet and savoury snacks, breakfast/lunch/dinner treats as well as wholesome beverages that she makes to keep her family healthy, full and happy.

Each recipe is quite simple and comes with some enchanting, vibrant pictures. Check out her Instagram (@thefoodsnaps) for more snaps.

The Dancing Kitchen

www.thedancingkitchen.food.blog

Shereena Neludi is a Sri Lankan living in Italy. Born and raised in Negombo, the lively fishing town that's well known for its fat mud crab and lagoon prawns, she has a lot of stories to tell, and fond memories to share with her readers. She does that through her very own Dancing Kitchen.

Many very local recipes can be found on The Dancing Kitchen, along with a whole bunch of interesting dishes with a fine Mediterranean touch. For more information, have a look at her Instagram profile – @the_dancing_kitchen.
