Ginirachcha.

The whole pork curry, dhal curry, pol sambol and roast paan combo is a trending affair these days, especially in the suburban corners of Colombo. Many roadside joints and home-based cooks are crafting up this irresistible explosion of flavours, and one should be crazy not to love it.

And if you live in Piliyandala/Kesbewa area, Ginirachcha is your best bet at getting this wonderful combination. After drooling over their Facebook feed for a good month, we decided to pay them a visit last week.

The Food

Aside from pork, they also do chicken and prawn curries, which you can pair up with roast paan, steamed rice and string hoppers. We opted for the Chicken Curry – Roast Paan (Rs. 400) and Pork Curry – String Hoppers (Rs. 500).

Oh my! The smell of their curries can be sniffed out from a mile away, all thanks to the generous use of  Sri Lankan spices. Having soaked up all that curry goodness, the chicken curry was spicy, while the creamy dhal curry tones it down to perfection. The pol sambol added the much-needed limey, zesty punch to the meal, along with a subtle spicy kick.

Kudos to the roast paan! Warm and beautifully crispy from the outside, while the inside is all soft, airy and fluffy, this stuff is infused with a good dose of butter. From what they gathered, they don't bake them here. A nearby bakery crafts them up just for Ginirachcha's customers.

Served with 20 fluffy string hoppers, the Pork Curry – String Hoppers meal is one solid deal. Wrapped in a chockful of spices, the chunks of pork here were wonderfully soft, juicy and well-cooked through. The infusion of nai miris further enriched the flavours of the gravy, while adding a lot of heat. Brilliant!

Ambience & Service

The place is run by a friendly family who'd treat you like you're one of their own. It's an al fresco setting arranged with a few wooden tables and chairs. Super simple, but gets the job done perfectly.

Conclusion

With absolutely mindblowing food offered at the most budget-friendly prices, Ginirachcha is lit! The portions are quite generous, and it totally saves the hassle of cooking dinner after a hectic day at work, and will treat you to a happy meal. We highly recommend!
