Rolling Kitchen.

Rolling Kitchen is a grill on wheels – i.e. a food truck that does BBQ, down Kimbulawala Walk Way, every evening. They barbecue all kinds of meat – chicken, beef, pork, lamb, sausages, and upon availability, fish.

Food

You can get their BBQ as a meal comprised of Nai Miris Sauce, Coleslaw, Mashed Potato and Garlic Roast Paan, or stuffed inside submarines, burgers, hotdogs, wraps or with a side of garlic rice.

We opted for the Chicken Leg Meal (Rs. 750), Sliced Beef Meal (Rs. 950) and a Pork Submarine (Rs. 1250).

Firm on the outside and soft from the inside, the chicken was grilled well, but a little bit of marinade would have made it better. While the outer layer of the meat was nicely caramelised and had a good amount of seasoning, we hardly got the latter from the inner layers. Plus, it a little bit of effort was needed to pull off the meat from the bone.

The accompanying Coleslaw featured some fresh veggies and cabbage tossed in with good-quality mayo, but the Mashed Potato was not creamy as anticipated. Boasting with a lot of tang and heat, the Nai Miris sauce was quite good, and we loved their Garlic Roast Paan.
The Beef Slices Meal was a generous portion, but unfortunately, the meat was hella tough, chewy and dry – signs of overcooking.

Considering the pile of everything this Pork Submarine has, we highly suggest getting a friend to share it with. Tucked in between a 12-inch, garlic butter slathered, grilled baguette, there was a pork chop, 2 fried eggs, sausages, chicken bacon, freshly cut cabbage, lettuce and carrot, drizzled with homemade sauce and melted cheese.

Tender and easy to the bite, the pork chop was nicely done, had less fat, and a lot of meat. With the other elements at play, it was a mouthful.

Needless to say, it's one heavy meal and quite messy, too. The bun tends to get sogged-up quickly (in our case, less than 5 minutes), and therefore, eat it on the go, if that's possible.

Service

The staff is quite fast with the preparation of the food, and welcoming too.

Conclusion

While they have room for improvement, it's an all right option to get your BBQ fix, especially if you're in the area.
