SmokeBricks.

The SmokeBricks is a new pizzeria in town, which we discovered wholly by accident. It was a gloomy Sunday night, and we were driving through Bambalapitiya town looking for a decent place to eat down Galle Road. Just past Online Kade, we spotted this name board, SmokeBricks, pointing us to the direction of Pepin Lane.

The Pizza

They have three kinds of pizza – the regular kind, fusion and sweet ones. We ordered two pizzas with four flavours from the first two.

This one has Cacciatore (Rs. 2030 for L, half Rs. 1015) and PapParoni (Rs. 1930 for L, half Rs. 965) – both from the regular range.

The Cacciatore was rich with chunks of grilled chicken, mushroom, sundried tomato and bell pepper, placed on top of a thick blanket of mozzarella, while their signature sauce lies underneath. There was a lot of chicken, generously rubbed with herbs, so every bite was quite meaty and delicious. A nice zing was kicking through each slice, as they had added a splash of red wine to it.

The crust was wonderfully crispy, with charred edges, which didn't interrupt the flavours.

Sharing the same excellent crust, the PapParoni had high-quality beef pepperoni, but you can opt for its pork version too. It also featured bits of button mushroom and black olives, as well as jalapenos, which added an extra zesty note to the overall flavour.

The signature sauce was tangy, and slightly spicy, and the pizzas certainly could use more of that.

This pizza is made with two fusion toppings – Lamborghini (Rs. 1990 for L, half Rs. 995) and Mexican Taco (Rs. 2290 for L, half Rs. 1145).

We are super impressed by the Lamborghini. In fact, it was our favourite out of the four toppings. Spicy and fiery, it was an assortment of some brilliantly done black pepper pork, green chillies, and fried curry leaves. Definitely a highlight of this year.

The Mexican Taco was comprised of crab meat, olives, jalapenos, sundried tomatoes, sweet corn, mozzarella, cheddar and marinara sauce. Cheesier than the rest, its overall taste leant on the tangy side, and we're glad that they didn't skimp on the crab meat.

Ambience & Service

The dining space here is enough to fit about 12 people at a time. It seems like a part of a house, so it has a dash of homely feel to it.

They encourage takeaway and delivery due to the pandemic situation in the country, but accommodate small groups for dine-in based on reservations. The hostess of the restaurant was super nice, friendly and helped us out with recommendations.

Conclusion

This is a solid bet for pizza if you're around Bambalapitiya. Their toppings, especially in the fusion side are absolutely interesting, and one of a kind. Do check them out.
