Top 5 Eateries Of The Month (August, 2021).

Among all the cloud kitchens and restaurants we tried in August, here are our absolute favourites. All of them are actively delivering during lockdown too!

Lago Italian Bistro

We had some fantastic pizza and risotto at the newly opened Lago Italian Bistro. A sister venture to the ever so popular Il Gelato, Park Street Trattoria and Il Caffé, they reside on the ground floor of Colombo City Centre.

Neapolitan-style pizza is their speciality, and they seem to do a fine job at it. The crust has a very crispy quality, with puffed up edges, a thin centre and beautiful lepording. They toss in some rich toppings on them as well.

Lago Italian Bistro highlights themselves for the picturesque ambience too, which is a beautiful blend of flora found on the shores of Lake Como and the tropical Sri Lankan greenery.

Thankfully, they deliver during the lockdown, so call 0112083332 for your order.

The Vade Story

A warm, crispy snack to pair with your cuppa this weekend? Check out The Vade Story. Done according to a decades-old recipe, The Vade Story whips up some delicious Masala Vade and Ulundu Vade, with many interesting chutneys.

Our favourite was the Kochchi Chutney – Ulundu Vade combo. Slightly crispy on the outside, and soft from the in, the ulundu vades were beautifully golden fried, and had a tasty mix of spices. In the kochchi chutney, they have nicely infused the signature kochchi kick into the classic green coconut chutney. In fact, the kochchi complements the chutney rather than overpowering its coconutty flavour and spices.

Their crispy Masala Vades are a must-try too. You can DM them on Instagram, or call at 0706777324 for orders.

Secrets by Ayana

Secrets By Ayana, is a cloud kitchen by Ayana Sea, the gorgeous, popular seaside villa in Wadduwa. What we like most about them is their excellent doughnuts. Generously stuffed with some creamy pastry cream, the Boston Cream Doughnut was simply the best.

You can also try a delish Beef Sandwich here, which comes with an incredibly juicy, tender beef steak, a generous amount of stringy mozzarella, sauteed mushroom, pickles, jalapeño and onions, neatly packed in between some well-executed, homemade ciabatta.

Buzz them at 0770570570 for orders and inquiries.

Poke 65

Poké 65 is a cloud kitchen that dishes out some deliciously healthy, vibrant poké bowls. Their creations are influenced by different cuisines, such as Vietnamese, Japanese, Thailand and more.

For example, take the Saigon Bowl, which derives its inspiration from Vietnamese and Thai flavours. It has a bed of rice noodles, thinly sliced, colourful vegetables (carrots, zucchini, cabbage lettuce and mint leaves), a heap of minced chicken sprinkled with crushed peanuts and Poké 65's signature chicken spring rolls, cut into pieces. And even a drop of their spicy, garlicky, zesty Saigon sauce can make everything heaps better.

This venture is managed by the team at Mai Globe Travels. For orders, WhatsApp 0772990565.

Loukoumades

Loukoumades is a traditional sweet treat hailing from Turkey/Greece, and Loukoumades in Dehiwala is probably the only place that you can taste them in Sri Lanka. Deep-fried, super crispy dough pastry balls soaked in sugar syrup, these loukoumades by Loukoumades also include some fun toppings too.

We absolutely loved the Biscoff and Nutella X Rochers loukoumades combo we ordered. You can easily grab your box of loukoumades too, by simply DMing them on Instagram
