The Cake Boutique – review.

Walked in for lunch on a Wednesday with perfect weather and had the coziest experience since the place is extremely comfortable! And the barista couldn’t have been more nicer! She was friendly and quick.

The Food

The cake boutique may seem tiny but trust me they have a vast variety of food you can choose from! Starting from cakes, drinks, pasta, and Sri Lankan’s most favorite, kottu and rice and curry.

Firstly, They started serving different kinds of cakes and they all looked exquisite!

  • Strawberry Blanc

This is the strawberry rose blanc which had a soft and creamy layer of icing on the top and you can taste the strawberry while you chew it.  Let me tell you, this piece of cake left a good impression on all the other dishes.

  • Double chocolate fudge mousse

Secondly, I was served their Double chocolate fudge mousse.

And this piece was probably the highlight of the day! You can feel the chocolate syrup as it is rich in chocolate and its flavors melting on your tongue!

There was a thin and soft layer of chocolate on the top and in between. It had a decent balance of sweetness. If you’re not much of a sweet fan do not hesitate to try this piece out!

  • Salted caramel with double chocolate fudge topped up with cashews

Next up was this bomb, another special highlight.  Have you ever felt like you are gonna miss this dish after trying it? That’s how this piece of cake made me feel. The caramel was out of this world. The flavor of it will never leave your taste buds as the caramel will definitely take a big place in your heart. And the cashews gave an extra layer of greatness to the dish. The filling was extremely soft, creamy, and melts with every bite!

  • Black Forest

The little cherry on the top says it all! This piece of cake was filled with the taste of cherries and had sprinkles of coffee powder on it. Not to forget the chocolate layer on the back which gave a delightful aftertaste.

  • The Red velvet

To be honest this was my first time trying a red velvet cake and THIS DID NOT DISAPPOINT! If you’re a sucker for Red velvet cake this is THE one. Every bite reminded me of how this piece has to come to an end until no more. The ermine icing did a pretty good job at adding a taste of color to this piece. The cake gave an acidic taste that comes from the use of buttermilk and vinegar as well as the cream cheese in the frosting. The acidity is balanced out by the sweetness of the cake itself. It also has cocoa powder added to it for a mild chocolate flavoring. Loved it!

  • Tiramisu

Tiramisu  is a great choice for a desert as it pairs well with any after dinner drink such as coffee, tea, wine, or even stout beer.

This was one of the few favorites I’ve tried and liked. It had a nice balance of sweet with a touch of bitterness as well.   Thick and decadent with a neatly piped mascarpone cheese cream topping and dusted with an even layer of cocoa. I loved the heavily soaked sponge with a hint of coffee. It was an easy 10/10!

Drinks

Of course we had to have a little serotonin boost after having a lot of pieces of delicious cakes!

  • Passion fruit mojito

As the drink the friendly staff served us a passion fruit mojito which was extremely refreshing !

This was a fun , tropical and fresh drink which made me forget about all the other dishes! I’ve had mojitos before but this was quite special indeed . The person who made this really put their best into it !

The Mains

  • Prawn Tom yum soup

I knew I needed something spicy to balance my taste buds. And this Tom yum soup made the move right on time. It was bold yet light , salty and citrusy, bursting with layer upon layer of intoxicating flavor from the lemongrass, garlic , lime juice and fish sauce along with the tender juicy prawns!

There were two eggs and a few cashews which gave this soup an excellent taste .

  • Creamy mushroom soup

I loved the creamy mushroom soup! The garlic bread and one sip of this soup tasted like heaven! The taste of mushroom is very prominent. Overall I would give this a 9/10.

The burgers

  • Juicy chicken sloppy joes

THE FRIES! THE CHICKEN! WHAT A DELIGHT!

The excitement is real, this burger was one of the best burgers I’ve had in a while. I rarely say yes to burgers but  I loved every second of eating this burger . You could have the minced chicken alone  without the burger , it was that good. With that bite have a fry dipped in sauce, that’s what I call a great meal.

  • Grilled chicken submarine

The fries that came along with this banger were spicier than the ones I had before . Which means this café serves you different combos of food in different ways. The meat was crumbly and toothsome. And the ingredients were fresh and delicious!

  • Creamy mushroom spinach pasta

Agh! I miss this dish already! For all you pasta lovers , get your hands on this one soon! As a person with a crazy obsession over pasta , I 100% recommend this pasta. The taste of spinach and mushroom together was unbelievable. The thickness of the cream sauce should be appreciated well . It was worth every bite. This definitely satisfied my pasta craving!!

Well the day ended with a bang….

  • Spicy Nai Miris chicken and Egg kottu

As Sri Lankans , we have tried kottu from various cafes / restaurants etc. But you definitely haven’t tried their Nai Miris kottu. Yes it does live up to its name.  What a meal this was.. The kottu was well prepared with chicken & egg slices and also a small bowl of chicken curry with another chicken piece . There was a sauce as a topping  so that when you mix the kottu well it tastes great! 10/10!

Last but not least…

They also have a shisha lounge which adds extra points to this café!

The conclusion

The main and most important fact is you can clearly see how big a portion is. Two people can easily dig in with no problem out of one portion. And it’s not only about cakes and sweets, you can proudly bring all your family members for a dinner out as there are meals suitable for everyone!

The service was excellent as well as the food and the ambience is great.

I’m sure it’ll be the same for you! Go try them out with your friends or family!
