A Journey Through Thambapanni at Blue Lotus.

By Shamrina Carim

Galadari has set up this ideal location of Sri Lanka’s cultural significance, facing the view of Galle Face at the Blue Lotus restaurant. We were invited to try out an original essence of Sri Lankan cuisine , hospitality and a toned down evening of good friends and good times!

There were unique additions to their ala carte menu such as the colorful hoppers, strings and a variety of pittu. Also, not to forget to try their rich sweet meats platter which were absolutely bomb!

Here are the specials we enjoyed from our choice of the Ala Carte menu:

1. String Hoppers

This staple comes with an accompaniment of Kiri Hodi & Pol Sambol, Kooni Sambol or Pol Mallum. There were three beautiful flavors extracted from the traditional Red Strings or White Strings and the significant Blue flavored strings prepared from the Nil Katarolu flower. This is a must try “experience” for authentic Sri Lankan unique cuisine.

2. Hopper Platter

The Hopper platter is served through a decadent memory of traditional hoppers, which are prepared at their action station. The hopper platter is usually accompanied by the condiments of Seeni Sambol, Katta Sambol, or Lunu Miris. The special bits of this platter highlights the Beetroot flavored red hopper and Spinach flavored green hopper, served at 1 portion each along with a touch of the classic plain and egg hopper.

We were invited to elusively try out other delicacies off their Sri Lankan menu. The below few foods from the menu were delectable, flavorful and blissed with spice.

3. String hopper pilau

This could be our all go-to favorite “String Hopper Kotthu”. We enjoyed this with a scrumptious small kiri isso bedum with murunga leaves and of course the dhal curry. Well flavored with any accompaniment or choice of curries you pick off from their curry bar available in the menu.

4. Godamba Roti

We chose to dine in with the classic Godamba Roti and the egg Godamba Roti. We recommend you to dip this amazing delicacy with a side of their Traditional Mutton curry or a dish of Chicken Pepper curry, or make it even better with a seafood twist of Cuttle fish black curry!

  1. Traditional Sri Lankan Sweet meat platter

The richness of the history of sweets in Sri Lanka was served a feast with assortments of Aggala, Sweet Fried Del Chips, Homemade Annasi Dosi, Pol Toffee, Homemade Bibikkan, Milk Toffee and a complement of Fruit Salad. You can choose from a variety of more sweet meats available on the menu such as their Welithalapa or the cravings of Lavariya too!

You could check in for lunch or dinner and enjoy this cozy setting within the complex of Galle Face, Colombo.

Check out their delectables in their Ala carte menu for more options
