Ramada High Tea buffet – 2023.

High Teas are quite the “Fash-un” these days, and we are stepping into a trendy 2023, with our tryout on Ramada’s High Tea Buffet, happening every Thursday to Sunday from 3.00pm to 6.00pm at a per person cost of Rs. 3600/=.

Given that the hotel is located at the heart of Colombo, this high tea serves a fascinating array of Sandwiches, Tarts, Bread Rolls, Short-eats, Cake and other desserts, and many more.

Achcharu was definitely a surprise on this spread, adding that local touch to an international display.

Sandwiches and Starters

As and when you arrive, you are greeted to this beautiful Sandwich and Starter arrangement, which was vibrant, colorful and certainly pleasing to our eyes. Highlights of this spread were the Caesar Tart, which to me was the best item of the whole buffet, The Chicken Ambulthiyal Sandwich, which was one fine local touch, and the Tom Yum Seafood Sandwich, which we couldn’t stop serving even after a second round.

The Caesar Tart was filled with a creamy caesar salad inside and did the perfect justice to our palettes. We loved the taste, texture and touch of it and refilled it everytime we went for a round.

Tom Yum Seafood Sandwich is a must try in this high tea buffet and we appreciate how the chefs at Ramada Colombo have taken the flavors of international cuisines very seriously and at the same time have played around with them to make delightful fusions. We are very keen on that deliberate flavor of Tom Yum, but the flavor was well infused and the seafood filling inside the sandwich layers made us crave for it throughout our time at Ramada. (Hasn’t stopped yet though).

If you do not like the tangy taste of Marmalade, you need to avoid the Smoked Beef and Onion Marmalade Tart. You might not like the flavor as soon as you bite on to it as that was how it was for us, but could work otherwise for different palettes. We also felt that the Chicken Liver Tart could have been worked around better, as we noticed that it was not an item that revolved much around the crowd.

The other  MUST TRIES, especially if you are with kids, are the Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese Pinwheel, Egg Mayo, Cheese and Pol Sambol PinWheel, Cheese and Tomato Biscuit and also the Rainbow Vegetable Sandwich. A speciality that this High Tea buffet carries is that it is highly kids friendly as it caters many options for the kids to try out without any fuss.

Shorteats and Mains

The Main spread at Ramada’s high tea buffet was tremendously good, but to be honest, not the fanciest we have seen around Colombo. Mini Chicken Burgers, mini Pizzas, Fish Buns, Veggie Quiche, Kochchi Sausage rolls, Thai Chicken Cutlets, Fish patties, Seafood wrap, Egg Cheese Chop, and even Veggie Pakora were the mains on the display.

Our favorites out of the lot were Thai Chicken Cutlets, Egg Cheese Chop, Fish Buns, Veggie Quiche and the Pakora. From how perfectly sized they were on the plate to how yummy they were in our palettes, these mains were spot on. Even though they were quite the usual short eats we could find anywhere else, there was something special about them that only our palettes can explain!

The Egg Cheese Chops had the cheese oozing out in every bite we take, and the fish buns had the most soft bread ever, with a fair share of filling. Veggie Quiche was quite the standard but definitely more flavorful than any other places out there, and the Thai Chicken Cutlets needed a second, third and even a fourth serving! Veggie Pakora was indeed delish, but they could have been more crispy and crunchy.

On the other hand, the Mini Chicken Burger was average and we would have loved to enjoy a layer of cheese in between the buns. Seafood wrap was not the most flavorful and we felt as if the wrap was too hard to chew on. Overall, we would recommend the Ramada team to game up the mains section to cater a fancier high tea for the Colombo Socials.

Desserts

They say the best things in life are sweet and for us, the best thing at the Ramada High Tea buffet were indeed the sweet things. The array of desserts at this high tea was applaudable and soothing to the eyes as it consisted of plenty of options. It was so good that we served two plates in one round!

The Mixed Fruit Tart was easily rich in delightful fruits and cream. The Vanilla Choux Bun too would be a Must Try all thanks to its oozing Vanilla filling. The Mango cheesecake slices effortlessly melted right in our mouth. However, The red Velvet cake slices were not up to our satisfaction and could have been better in texture and in sweetness.

The Chocolate Tart too was more towards the rusty side while making it a lot of work to bite into its hard texture. But, as I always say, we are always covered with the cherries on top and here at Ramada, they were none other than the Strawberry Panna Cotta and Mango Mousse. Even out of the two, Mango Mousse was, beyond any doubt, the absolute finest of all!

Beverages

You can have a choice of Cold beverages which include Iced Coffee, Cordials, and the Lime Iced Tea. As for the hot beverages, Tea, Milk Tea, Coffee and Milk Tea are available with your choice of creamers and sugar.

The Lime Iced Tea was a stunner, served to us from a live mini action station. It was made using a lime cordial, lime juice and iced tea put together in absolute bliss. All it needs is a good stir and every sip of it was worth the experience!

We also tried the Iced Coffee and Guava & Strawberry Cordial, and both were satisfactory in their own way.

Conclusion:

Ramada by Wyndham Colombo always pulls off stunning dinner buffets and lunch menus and now, the premises is open for a beautiful evening High Tea buffet, serving that unlimited experience that is worth all the money you pay for it. We are definitely returning and so shall you, we hope!
