Waves of Change: Hospitality Partners Unite for a Cleaner Colombo Coastline.

In celebration of World Environment Day and World Oceans Day, Amari Colombo and Granbell Hotel Colombo came together on 8 June 2026 to launch the Waves of Change Beach Clean-Up Initiative, demonstrating the power of collaboration in driving meaningful environmental action.

Bringing together associates and volunteers from both hotels, the initiative focused on cleaning a stretch of Colombo’s coastline from Colpetty Railway Station to Bambalapitiya Railway Station. Participants collected and removed litter and marine debris, contributing to the preservation of one of the city’s most valuable natural assets while raising awareness of responsible environmental stewardship.

The partnership reflects a shared commitment to sustainability and community engagement, reinforcing the role of the hospitality industry in creating positive social and environmental impact. Through collective action, the initiative showcased how businesses can work together to inspire change and encourage greater responsibility towards protecting Sri Lanka’s coastal ecosystems.

As Colombo continues to evolve as a leading tourism destination, initiatives such as Waves of Change highlight the importance of preserving the environment for future generations while fostering stronger connections between businesses, communities, and the natural world.

Quote – Mr Monty Ariyaratne, General Manager, Amari Colombo

“At Amari Colombo, we believe sustainability is most impactful when it extends beyond the walls of our hotel and into the communities we serve. The Waves of Change initiative demonstrates what can be achieved when organisations come together with a common purpose. Protecting our coastline is a shared responsibility, and through partnerships such as this, we can create meaningful and lasting positive change for our city, our visitors, and future generations.”

Quote – Mr Shehan Safraz, General Manager, Granbell Hotel

“Community-driven initiatives play a vital role in building a more sustainable future. We are proud to partner with Amari Colombo on this important effort, which reflects our shared commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility. By working together, we not only help protect Colombo’s beautiful coastline but also inspire greater awareness and collective action among our teams, guests, and the wider community.”
