Traffic Plan For Indian Prime Minister’s Visit (2015).

This is the first time Sri Lanka is hosting an Indian Prime Minister in 28 years, when Rajiv Gandhi last visited. Welcome to Mr. Narendra Modi and really hope this visit goes much much better. For people living in Colombo, this is the traffic plan for the day.

His first stop is to visit with President Sirisena, but that happens before we’re publishing this so we’ll leave it out.

11:30 AM – Visit Maha Bodhi Society

At 11:30 AM Mr. Modi will proceed from his base at what we think is the Taj to the Maha Bodhi Society in Maradana. This will affect the roads running through Fort, down D.R. Wijewardena (past Lake House) and through Maradana junction to near Ananda College.

The traffic scene will be done by 12:30 PM.

1:00 PM – Lunch With Ranil

At 1:00 PM the roads from Galle Face up to Waters Edge will be affected. Mr. Modi will travel through Colpetty Junction and then down Horton Place and Castle Street to Battaramulla. He’ll stop at Waters Edge. This plus school time traffic will make it a super mess around Ladies’ College, D.S. Senanayake, British School, etc. Mr. Modi will be visiting Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and former President Kumaratunga and reps of other political parties.

Traffic will be affected until 1:30 PM.

2:45 PM – Visit Parliament

His quick trip to Parliament (down the road from Waters Edge) will only affect traffic for 15 minutes. While here it seems that he will visit the IPKF Memorial near Parliament.

The Parliament Road will be back online by 3 PM.

4:45 PM – Galle Face

For half an hour in the afternoon his stomping ground near Galle Face will be affected.

It will be back online by 5:15 PM.

7:45 PM – President’s House

In the evening Mr. Modi will travel down Janadhipathi Mw to the President’s House (we presume).

This will affect the road through Fort until 8:00 PM.
