The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.

The Coffee Bean has always been known for its high prices and its posh coffee shop image. The prices are still high, the food is okay, but after closing their upstairs for refurbishing months ago, they’ve opened it up again and it looks great.

The Food

We got a chicken burger and pasta with roast chicken and mushroom. Both these dishes were Rs. 750 each, but they always catch you with the extras – Rs. 100 here for cheese, Rs. 150 there for sausages. The burger was not bad, pretty average.

We did enjoy the pasta though, it was pretty creamy with chunky chicken and sausage pieces and plenty of cheese.

Oh lord, the price of coffee. Let us not whine about that – if you can afford it then good for you. We got a big glass of caramel latte for Rs. 650. It was good.

We got macaroons too, for 100 bucks each, and they were alright. Overall the damage was about Rs. 3000 for two, which was a lot for just a mid-day snack. Still, the ambience of the upstairs space made it a pleasant visit.

Service & Ambience

The upstairs is pretty neat and looks a lot like it used to before they shut it off for a re-do – save for some new interior decor, paneling, the TV, and a lovely outdoor space. It feels more spacious than it used to, it’s pretty quiet and there’s plenty of sunlight streaming in.

The one thing worth noting is the outdoor wooden paneled seating upstairs, alongside a hedge of green. In good weather, this is a really chill place to hang out and unwind. We like that there are seating options upstairs, whether you want a cushy seat by the window, an ordinary sofa or a cane chair on the porch. Service is more or less non-existent here, your order just arrives at your table once you pay for it.

Conclusion

The Coffee Bean is a pretty comfortable place to relax at, though the bill can make you rather uncomfortable. The food and coffee is alright, and the upstairs is a snug place to spend time at with a friend or a book.
