5 Cooking Tips from Knorr.

By Janani Vithanage

Being a mother in today’s world is no easy task. From waking up at the crack of dawn to prepare her children for school and leaving for work, where she must stay alert and active all day, to returning home and helping children with homework, completing household chores and preparing dinner, all while maintaining a sunny smile and calm exterior, mothers are often the center of the household, the lodestar that the entire family is drawn to when in need. We at Yamu, as well as the excellent team from Knorr truly understand how taxing all this can be and hold the utmost love and respect for mums everywhere, which is why we’ve come up with this list that is bound to help our matriarchs save up on precious time, while still continuing to serve food that tastes and smells absolutely delicious. Better yet, all the Knorr products are incredibly affordab

1. Add Flavour with the Knorr Seasoning Cube

As a mother, we’re pretty sure you have those days where you come home after a gruelling day at work, only to remember that there’s no seafood or meat at home, and we all know how hard it can be to reconcile kids to a vegetarian meal. However, worry not, you will no longer have to fight back your exhaustion and drive to the store, because Knorr offers you their game-changing seasoning cube. This adds subtle, yet gratifying hints of chicken flavour, as these unassuming little cubes are packed with chicken powder, spices and herbs that will mix completely with any dish. Just go for a yummy fried rice; this saves time, is simple to make and is something that all kids love to eat. You won’t need to worry about preparing a chicken curry to go with it, because the wonderful seasoning cube will have your fried rice tasting like chicken anyway! Alternatively, you could try adding one cube into your potato curry, beans curry, or any other vegetable curry for that matter, and taste the difference! The chicken taste lended to your vegetables by the Knorr seasoning cube really allows you to experiment and be innovative with how you cook your curries.

2. Add the Knorr Maldives Fish Powder to your Pol Sambol

Speaking of Sri Lankan staples, here’s another one. Pol sambol, a dish made of freshly grated coconut mixed with chilli, salt, lime and onions is sure to satisfy the cravings of anyone who needs that touch of extra spiciness to enjoy their meals. An ingredient that really adds a very unique taste to pol sambol is Maldives fish, but finding clean products of high quality, in addition to the grinding and pounding which is often required in its preparation can be quite a hassle. This is where the Knorr Maldives Fish Powder Mix comes in. All you need to do is add the KMF mixture into the dish and mix well. The best part is that since the mixture is in powder form as well as biteable chips, it’s very blendable and infuses flavour into every single bit of the sambol! This product can also be used in other dishes like seeni sambol and lunumiris, or even regular vegetable curries.

4. Use the Knorr Chicken Curry Mix in your Everyday Chicken Curry

Chicken curry is a much beloved staple in the Sri Lankan rice and curry dishes that make up at least one meal (and sometimes all three meals) in our day to day lives. To make the preparation of this flavourful dish easier, Knorr offers their chicken powder mix, a masterful blend of spices including chilli, pepper, cinnamon, cloves and cardamom as well as other natural ingredients like onions, garlic, curry leaves and mustard.  Simply stir in one packet of the mix per 500g of regularly cooked chicken for a delicious dish that serves 4!

5. Organise your Workspace

A simple practice that can reduce your cooking time by as much as A simple practice that can reduce your cooking time by as much as half, is simply maintaining an organised working/cooking area. You’d be stunned if you knew how much time you waste running around the kitchen in search of ingredients while cooking. To save up on this time, arrange all cooking utensils and commonly used ingredients like salt, sugar, pepper, spices and oil near your cooking area, in clearly labelled jars or containers. If you have little time for cooking during weekdays, you could consider marinating and storing a large batch of items on the weekends, so that you only have to thaw and cook them on weekdays. In this manner, you can also store often used ingredients like onion, garlic and ginger by cleaning and chopping up large quantities on the weekend and storing them in the fridge inside sealed containers with a dash of vinegar for later use. You could also consider investing in time-saving appliances like a pressure cooker, a blender and a food processor.
