Giritale Hotel: A Haven of Tranquility and Adventure Amidst Nature’s Splendor.

Here are 5 reasons we recommend all our readers to visit the Giritale Hotel.

Nestled amidst the picturesque landscapes and rich historical heritage of Sri Lanka, Giritale Hotel stands as a hidden gem that offers a serene and captivating experience to its guests. Surrounded by lush greenery, tranquil lakes, and ancient ruins, this charming hotel is an ideal destination for those seeking a peaceful escape and a glimpse into the country’s glorious past. In this article, we will explore the enchanting Giritale Hotel, highlighting its unique features and the cultural wonders that await visitors.

Located in the heart of the Cultural Triangle of Sri Lanka, Giritale Hotel provides a gateway to a wealth of historical sites and attractions. The hotel’s strategic position allows guests to easily explore ancient wonders such as the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya, and Dambulla Cave Temple, all within a short distance from the property. These archaeological marvels offer a glimpse into the island’s rich heritage and are a testament to the advanced civilizations that once thrived in this region.

1. The Breath-taking View

Let’s start with our most favorite part of the hotel, the view. The hotel is surrounded by a breathtaking view of the Giritale Tank, one of the deepest tanks in Sri Lanka, exceeding a depth of 250 feet. The hotel has thoughtfully constructed a verandah overlooking this beautiful view. Whether you are working on your laptop, sipping a cup of hot Ceylon tea or taking a dip in their swimming pool, you can enjoy the view.

2. The Adventurous Safari

A Serpent Eagle

Like most Safari visitors, we had been disappointed by Safaris, However, with the help of Madushan Mendis (@madushan_mendis) and his expertise we were able to have close encounters with many Elephants, Serpent Eagles, Peacocks, Wild Boar, Deer and different types of birds. As per Chanul Siriwardanal, (awkward_herper) the hotel’s birdwatching guide and animal enthusiast), you can also spot Wooly-necked stork, Painted stork, Grey Heron, Brahmin Kite, Sloth Bear and Leopards and many more animals.

3. The Comfortable and Spacious rooms

We were offered the ‘Super Deluxe Room’ with a stunning view. The rooms were clean and tidy and more than anything, comfortable and spacious. The room also offered extra amenities such as an ironing board, hair dryer and a mini fridge.

4. The Boat ride on the Giritale Tank

We were provided with safety jackets

Besides enjoying the landscape view of the Giritale tank, you’d be pleased to know that Giritale Hotel offers the opportunity to take a boat ride where you can immerse yourself in the beautiful scenery surrounding the Giritale Tank. We were able to spot 5 elephants and a glimpse of the Malabar Pied Hornbill. The pictures attached above will describe our experience better than words ever will.

5. The Rich Heritage

What most people don’t know is that King Parakramabahu, the Great is said to have constructed the Giritale Tank.

Step inside this enchanting sanctuary and allow yourself to be captivated by its architectural marvels. Inspired by the rich heritage of both Sri Lankan and Hindu cultures, the hotel seamlessly weaves together elements that pay homage to the glorious past. As you traverse its corridors, you’ll discover subtle symbols and intricate details that celebrate the cultural values held dear by generations past.

In the heart of the hotel’s design lies a profound tribute to the ancient traditions of the Hindu faith. A gentle tinkling sound resonates through the air, drawing your attention to a graceful bell. This delicately crafted artifact serves as a reverent reminder of the sacred rituals performed in the hallowed precincts of a Kovil, where devotees seek solace and connection with the divine.

Along with the activities we experienced, the hotel also offers a range of other activities such as hiking, village tours, tree trails, camping, and cycling. We highly recommend you try these activities during your visit as they were the highlight of our trip!

Giritale Hotel in Sri Lanka offers an enchanting blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and warm hospitality. With its serene surroundings, proximity to ancient wonders, comfortable accommodations, and delicious cuisine, the hotel provides an unforgettable experience for travelers seeking tranquility and a deeper connection with the rich history of Sri Lanka. A stay at Giritale Hotel promises to be a journey of relaxation, exploration, and immersion in the cultural treasures of this beautiful island nation.
