How Bio Oil reduces scars.

By Shanali Fernando

Still curious about this little pink bottle of magic and what it can do? Bio-Oil Skincare Oil really needs no introduction, it is the world’s leading scar and stretch mark treatment rolled out globally in 2000. But for the unfortunate ones who have tried product after product with the hopes of clearing up your skin, we have broken it down for you. Does Bio-Oil really work? Can you use Bio-Oil for face… yay or nay? Is Bio-Oil safe for pregnancy, and can it help with your acne scars?

A scar is the rapid overproduction of collagen as a response to the healing process following injury to the skin. The body acts as quickly as possible to repair the affected area, with a focus on survival rather than perfect healing.

Scars are often looked at as a serious skin condition, but they are in fact no more than marks that are left on the skin once a wound has healed. Due to the fact that individuals heal differently, the final appearance of a scar will vary from person to person. Scars can be caused by everyday cuts, grazes, and minor burns as well as more serious ones such as hospital surgery, trauma, elective surgery, cosmetic surgery, and mole removal.

However you get it we can all agree it ain’t pretty and we would all love it, if it disappears just as soon as it appeared.

Bio-Oil Skincare Oil helps to improve the appearance of new or old scars, whether from surgery, accidents, burns, insect bites, scratches, or conditions such as chickenpox.  It can also help in burn scars by soothing the dryness and excessive itchiness of post-burn itch.

Studies have shown that Bio-Oil Skincare Oil helps in reducing the redness of newly formed acne scars and in improving the general condition of acne-prone skin. Rosemary oil, a key ingredient in bio-oil demonstrates antibacterial activity against bacteria that live on the skin and contribute to acne.

Another common form of scarring is stretch marks. As much as the word suggests stretch marks are lines on the skin caused by the skin stretching as a result of rapid changes in weight of, for example, pregnant women, bodybuilders, and adolescents during their growth spurt. Although stretch marks are not a significant medical problem, they can cause emotional distress to those who develop them.

It is estimated that between 50% to 90% of pregnant women are prone to stretch marks. Stretch marks can develop on the abdomen, thighs, hips, lower back, buttocks, and breasts where there is the greatest stretching of the skin.

While no product can guarantee to prevent the formation of stretch marks, Bio-Oil Skincare Oil’s oil-based formulation keeps the skin moisturized, and ensures the skin maintains its maximum elasticity making it the body’s best defense against the formation of stretch marks, thereby reducing the possibility of stretch marks forming and helping to improve the appearance of existing stretch marks. It has been used safely by pregnant women for over 30 years to prevent the formation of stretch marks.

In clinical trials, 92% of participants showed an improvement in the appearance of their scars after eight weeks of consistently using Bio-Oil and 100% of participants showed an improvement in the appearance of their stretch marks.

Its award-winning unique formulation of Bio-Oil combines Vitamins A and E which work with the skin to promote exfoliation, and cell regeneration as well as increase the moisture content of the skin, thereby improving the overall texture and tone of the scar and assisting in the effective healing of the injured skin which accelerates the scar healing process. Calendula and chamomile oils are both anti-inflammatory, which can also help heal the skin.

So it’s safe to say that this little pink bottle actually does contain some powerful blends of natural botanicals and supercharged vitamins to create some magic in your skin. It may be your final destination on that long journey of finding the perfect skincare product for healthy skin. Because we all know good skin. Good mood. Good day!
