Chinese Delight.

Located down Marine Drive, Chinese Delight is yet another Chinese restaurant serving authentic Chinese cuisine. We dropped in for a late lunch.

The Food

Their menu was physically huge and the items were all pictured with their names and prices. That's really good because sometimes the name is more appealing than the dish itself. They had rice, noodles for main dishes as well as seafood, meat and vegetarian options for sides.

We got a portion of Fried Noodles (Rs. 788) as our main. It's more than enough for two hungry people, but it was quite steep. The dish itself was more like a noodle kottu and it was rather dry. There were enough chicken bits to chew on but they were nothing to rave about. Overall, the dish was tasty but we expected more for that amount.

The Fried Lotus Root with Pork (Rs. 1088) was simply amazing! It is definitely on the more expensive side, but I would say it's worth it.

The lotus stems were delicious, crunchy and full of flavour. There were around five big slices of pork and combined with the stems, it was juicy, chewy and salivatingly good. Garnished with bell pepper and capsicum, this one had a really nice spicy kick to it. We highly recommend this.

The Homemade Tofu (Rs. 788) was pretty decent, but not the best we have had. It was a large portion with huge chunks of marinated tofu, which was quite alright, but would've been better if they used some more seasoning.

Tofu is one of the blandest food you could come across so it's really hard to get strong flavours out of it, but they have certainly tried. The sauce had a thick consistency with a hint of sweetness.

The Drinks

They don't have an extensive drinks menu, but they serve the usual fresh juices and soft drinks.

The Avocado Juice (Rs. 488) we got was phenomenal. It was creamy and so thick, I couldn't stop drinking it. There was very little refined sugar in it, with the natural sweetness of the avocado seeping through. Definitely try it if you ever stop by.

Service and Ambiance

Their service was friendly and welcoming. The waiter advised us in terms of the dishes, specifying what suits best for our Sri Lankan palates.

The ambiance has a very homey atmosphere. It doesn't take a genius to recognize that the dining area is arranged in the living room of the house that has been flipped into a restaurant. I always enjoy these kinds of arrangements, where they have made an attempt to reach outside the box of a stereotypical restaurant.

Conclusion

Overall, the food was delicious, but the prices were comparatively high. It's not like there's a shortage of Chinese restaurants here, so for this price, the experience we had at Shang Palace is better suited.
