Courage Compassion Commitment (CCC) Foundation.

The first time we visited the CCC Foundation, we were there to interact and spend time with the children, serve a meal to the children and the parents of the children and the other patients. The children themselves had shaved heads, almost all of them had masks. We were told that the number of children at the hospice could change. Some children would be lucky enough to go home and some would not be so lucky. That was our first visit and we have visited over and over again over the months and over the years and it does not become any easier.

Approximately 25% of the inpatients at the National Cancer Institute in Maharagama are outpatients and cannot afford to live close to the hospital or travel long distances to and from their rural homes for treatment.

Which is why the Maharagama Hospital is overcrowded. Some outpatients and carers have no option but to sleep on the cold floors of the corridors, or under beds. Treatments such as chemotherapy weaken the immune system and sleeping on the floor puts these outpatients at far greater risk and reduces their chances to fight cancer.

The CCC House is a 188 bed transit home for cancer outpatients and their carers. It is situated inside the premises of the Cancer institute and allows outpatients easy access to their treatment.

CCC House provides a safe and comfortable environment to ensure outpatients have a fighting chance for a speedy recovery. Children and carers have rooms with attached bathrooms, and adults have dormitory style accommodation with shared facilities. Other facilities include, TV lounge, reading area, meals area, counselling room and play area for children. The CCC House management and staff are dedicated to the wellbeing of both outpatient and carer.

At the CCC House the children and the adult patients are guaranteed a bed, medication and focused attention. Children and carers have rooms with attached bathrooms, and adults have dormitory style accommodation with shared facilities. Other facilities include TV lounge, reading area, meals area, counseling room and play area for children. The CCC House management and staff are dedicated to the wellbeing of both outpatient and carer.

The CCC Foundation requires funds to maintain the CCC House to ensure it provides the best possible service to outpatients and carers. Funds are required to cover costs such as staff salaries, cleaning and laundry services, security services, repairs and maintenance etc.
