Pasco Food Blush.

Pasco Food Blush is a new eatery that has recently come up on Pannipitiya road in Battaramulla. It’s only a few meters away from where Coco Citrine used to be (they’ve been replaced by La Trattoria – a fancy new Italian restaurant). If you’re driving past Food Blush in the night, it’s pretty hard to miss – there’s a bright neon sign and a big screen out in the courtyard facing the road.

Whenever I drive past here, I always find at least few people watching the cricket from the courtyard. It’s never very crowded, which is something good, but that may be because it just opened.

Their main attraction is the big screen, I think they’re hoping this turns out to be the new hangout joint for sports fanatics, but it’s not quite there yet. Food Blush serves up some fairly cheap food; pasta, sandwiches and dishes like pork chops, barbecued chicken and burgers. You’ll also find Sri Lankan-bar-favourites like devilled chicken and omelettes and inexpensive French fries.

They are followers of the new local bring your own booze strategy – they don’t charge corkage here. It seems that these types of restaurants, or lounges as they like to call it, are coming up everywhere (Chatz, Shanghai Terrace).

For lunch they do great homemade-like rice and curry buffet for Rs. 200. It is crazy how cheap it is; 200 rupees for a buffet, even if it’s just rice and curry with 5 curries, is a pretty good bargain. When I was in there I easily ate 200 rupees worth of chicken alone, it’s a wonder how they could make any money from this, but then again I suppose not everyone is a greedy carnivore like me.

When I went here yesterday at around 2pm, the place was empty. I couldn’t help enjoying the solitude; it’s a nice and quiet place for an afternoon lunch. The restaurant is air conditioned and there’s a TV. You can’t really ask for much more for 200 rupees – you get unlimited chicken and curry, a comfortable place to dine and decent enough service. There’s also WiFi, didn’t have a chance to test the speed though.

All in all, this place has got a lot of potential. It has a clean and calm feel to it and the courtyard with the big screen is actually a pretty chilled out spot. The prices are really fair but I’d expect them to go up soon.

Will update on the rest of the food soon, please comment below if you have tried any of it!
