Speedrome in Battaramulla, as far as I know, is the only place for pro karting in close proximity to Colombo. They used to have a smaller circuit in Excel World (AKA Millenium Park before) but it looks like they’ve sold their go karts for scrap metal leaving Speed Drome the only place for an injection of speed.
Ahhh speed, the smell of engine grease and the sweet sound of an engine rev – 3 things that almost every boy falls in love. It’s just something us guys are drawn to, we are adrenaline junkies and proud of it – having the chance to get behind a wheel and drive really fast is simply ecstasy.
But Speed Drome isn’t just a pro kart track, they’ve also got a pretty nice swimming pool to relax in, and a huge restaurant that you can book for corporate events, birthday parties and what not. It’s a pretty awesome place to have a party – that is if you can afford cutting a few branches off that money tree in the back yard.
For 10 minutes around the track, it’ll cost you Rs. 1000. It honestly seems way longer when you’re driving around so the price isn’t too bad, plus it’s one of those things you have to try before you die. You can also sign up for a 3 minute session for Rs. 300 but I think this offer expires in mid July.
Access to the swimming pool will cost you around Rs. 450, a bit expensive but I like having this as an option – the swimming pool looks quite clean and I suppose it’s a decent place to spend on one of these hazy summer days. Check out the membership information on their website, you get access to the pool + some discounts on the pro karts.
Before I forget, I should mention that they’ve invested in some new karts. They’re a bit bigger and they look much faster. It’s a bit more expensive to use but if the normal karts aren’t fast enough for you these will probably give you that adrenaline rush you’re forever after.
