Street Stuffs Colombo – Review.

By Rahma Rifkhar

As Colombo eased into post-lockdown life last year, street food became all the fire.  Multiple food ventures have been popping up all over the city.  Street Stuffs Colombo is yet another one of these booming start-ups and we decided to drop by their drive-through to see how they were doing.

Situated in Scofield Place, Colpetty, Street Stuffs is meant for all things sweet. This is one of those places meant for satisfying your 4 pm snack cravings.

Here’s the run-down of everything we tried that resulted in an epic sugar rush for the next half hour.

1. Kit-kat Ice-cream

Let’s just summarise this one to: What can have chocolate in it and not taste heavenly?

The ice-cream was rich and creamy with delicious chunks of Kit-Kat in every spoon.  The decadent bits of milk chocolate mixed within made it all the better.

2. Lime and Mint Mojito

What better way to battle the Lankan heat than a refreshing jug of a local favourite? Honestly, Lime and mint are a match made in Food heaven. While the recipes for Mojitos are seemingly simple, getting it right is definitely not! Street stuffs did this drink perfect justice.

Hands down, this was my personal favourite from the whole spread.

3. The Chocolate Brownie Jar

As cute as it looks, this one was honestly a huge let-down. The brownies didn’t have that chewy-chocolatey goodness to it, the consistency was way too hard and crumbly. This jar simply has a long way to go.

4. Oreo Milkshake

This one wasn’t exactly a show-stopper either. While the vanilla ice-cream shined, the Oreos didn’t. What could have been a delicious shake didn’t live up to its standards simply because there wasn’t that perfect harmony in the flavours. The satisfaction and crunch that comes with the Oreos was sadly missing.

5. Spring Rolls and Tandoori Chai

While they mostly cater to everyone’s sweet cravings, there’s savoury options as well. We ordered a portion of crispy spring rolls off the menu and a cup of chai to go with it. Boy, that was a good call.

The Spring rolls had that perfect crispiness in every bite. The filling was equally delicious.

If you like your Masala chai not too spicy, you’d absolutely love this. The Tandoori chai we tried had that intermediate level of spice most people love with a perfect harmony between the tea leaves and the spices in every sip.

The Nutshell

Street Stuffs, which began in November 2021, is the brainchild of three childhood friends. They are just getting started with all the big plans they have for their business, beginning with expanding to include an indoor seating area for their customers soon.

While they have a long way to go, Street stuff is certainly worth dropping by if you are ever in the area for a satisfying sugar rush.
