The Off-Road Feeding Program.

The Off-road Feeding program is a 15 year old endeavor and a one-man show carried out by a Mr. Nihal de Silva who took upon himself to care for and feed street dogs, cats and other animals.

It all began a little over 15 years ago when Nihal came across a poor dog in a drain trying very hard to get out. He had no fur, was sick and mangy, malnourished with scabs. He didn't think twice to stop and help the dog and he kept noticing these helpless dogs were malnourished.

The Off Road Feeding project has saved so many animals from starvation. The project provides meals for over 125 stray animals in 26 different locations.

Any project undertaken single-handedly would prove to be a task because it requires a lot of physical capacity and financing. If you are an animal lover and would like to help street animals, this project is the one for you to get involved in and even donate towards.

To donate meals cost Rs. 6500 to Rs. 7000. Meals consist or 20 to 25 kg of rice, 40 pkts of Maxie pet food, chicken, liver, tin fish. You can also donate meat items as well as non perishable food items.

To keep up to date with what he does, call Uncle Nihal (as he is fondly known) to lend him a hand. He cooks and transports the food to feed the many animals he comes across at his usual routes. The Off Road program not only feeds stray animals, when finances are sufficient, he even provides medical treatment and sterilization.

A normal day with Uncle Nihal begins in the wee hours at 4 AM when he starts cooking the meals. At 10 AM he loads his van with the food to head out and his day comes to a close at 8.20 PM when he returns home to start the cooking all over again for his own pets.

If you have ever felt a pang in your heart when you passed by a mangy, skeletal animal on the street and thought if only you could help in some way by feeding the poor animals but never had the time to get down to it, here's the opportunity. You can either help by financing the Off Road Feeding Program or lend a hand towards the tedious task of cooking and feeding the animals.

Provide a stray animal a meal by sending in your donations to:
