Theva Residency.

Theva Residency is a small boutique hotel – and open restaurant – about a fifteen minute drive from Kandy’s center. The view here of the empire city and the hills that surround it is spectacular.

The Rooms

The best thing about the rooms is the view, and the fact that whether you’re in the Suite or just a Deluxe, you get to experience it. The interior of the hotel and the rooms is pretty minimal – mostly whites with the occasional pastel shade, and some small local detail like a moonstone or a yak bera on the wall. It’s very tastefully designed. The prices are a little bit steep though, at around Rs. 25,000 for a Deluxe room, although they’ve got special deals if you go with a group.

It has to be said though, the Room #2 Suite is definitely the best in the hotel, even better than the Penthouse – it’s a large space with a jacuzzi that looks out onto the hills, and a trippy view of the city, the hills and lots of green. For around Rs. 50K, it’s worth investing in for an extra special romantic stay.

The Pool

The pool isn’t very big, but the pool-side is a really beautiful space, surrounded by plenty of green and with a cane-sofa hangout spot in front of it against stone walls. The pool is probably the best place in the hotel to enjoy the view from.

The Restaurant

The restaurant serves a varied menu of Western cuisine and also some delicious crab dishes. It’ll probably cost you around Rs. 2500 per head, which is expensive, but where service and presentation is considered, this is a fine dining kind of place, so we’re not surprised. The food is good, not spectacular, though there is a lot of preparation involved. And if you sit outside or in, there’s a clear uninterrupted view of the sky and hills. It takes only a few minutes to get here from the city center and it’s a great place for a romantic dinner. Check out our detailed review here.

Conclusion

Theva Residency is an idyllic stop for a restful holiday. It’s pricier than average but it’s also not an average hotel – the view is great and the service is pretty flawless. The style is relaxingly minimal, and even if you’re not staying over we think it’s a cool place to chill at, especially by the pool side.
