Currymuch.

Well made, affordable buth packets in an area bristling with hungry office workers? There’s some serious rupee potential here, and Currymuch is the newest member in the office district’s buth kade circuit, nestled in the heart of all of Staple Street’s white collar action.

But Currymuch isn’t really your average kade. Bright, clean and manned by excellent, friendly staff, this buth posh kade offers the healthier, feel-good alternative to your average buth packet. Serving a rotation of rice-based lunches (different meals on different days, only one of which is available per day), you can pop into to the little store on Staple St to procure a box of rice for just Rs. 200 (no space for dining in). While this may be a tad more expensive than your regular lunch option, the ingredients used in these packets are excellent – they’re fresh, healthy and mercifully undoused with high amounts of a low-quality cooking oil. While it’s easy to get sick of eating from the kade everyday – too much oil, too little parippu – with Currymuch it almost feels like you’re eating at home. The curries to rice ratio is balanced, the ingredients are fresh and you don’t feel bloated and greasy afterwards.

In spite of the hyperactive copy decorating their bright orange boxes and a rather peculiar name, Currymuch is an excellent place – that doesn’t really need to resort to frenetic, loud advertising. Their food is great all on its own – clean grains of rice, long stalks of curried green beans, delicately spiced skewers of soft, boneless chicken and thick golden parippu. This is a solid new player on the office lunch circuit, and it’s highly recommended if you want a home-cooked style, healthy Lankan lunch. Two turmeric-stained thumbs up.
