Lazy Koala – your boutique hotel in Hikkaduwa.

If you haven’t stayed at the Lazy Koala, it’s time you did!

To begin with, check the guest reviews on social media, OTAs and other platforms.

This boutique hotel in Hikkaduwa is a little gem with mesmerising views of the Indian ocean. It gives you the best of both worlds – just a three-minute tuk-tuk ride or drive to Hikkaduwa town and Hikkaduwa beach while also being just far enough from the hustle and bustle of this vibrant town.

It was opened in mid-2018 by two Sri Lankan born Aussies who have a passion for travel. It has been a hit with young international tourists since then, but the Easter Bombings and Covid related travel restrictions severely impacted the hotel. The Lazy Koala has now also become a very popular spot for local tourists with guests ranging from singles to couples, to large groups, this hotel seems to provide guests a great experience, and high-quality accommodation at an affordable price.

The hotel is beautifully designed with carefully curated photographs and furniture all designed to provide a casual and informal feeling. It exudes a special vibe and character and has a cheerful ambience. The walls are decorated with beautiful colourful street portraits of people from different parts of Asia, all taken by one of the owners.

There are nine spacious rooms with ensuite bathrooms. Eight of the rooms have balconies and ocean views. Five are Double Rooms and four are Dorm Rooms. All Double Rooms sleep two people, and the Dorm Rooms sleep up to four. The property can be booked for exclusive use and can accommodate up to 26 people.

The Lazy Koala is quite spacious and has several separate chillout areas on the landings, ideally suited for large groups or work events. The highlight of this property is the beautiful rooftop terrace which is a hit with all guests who visit. It overlooks the Indian ocean and is perfect for chillaxing, from doing yoga in the mornings, or having a cuppa or a glass of wine (BYO) while watching the sun go down. It is your perfect escape.

The beautiful pool completes this property and is complemented by well-maintained gardens. It also has ample private parking space at no extra charge.

The Lazy Koala also has an in-house café aptly named the Eucalyptus Café. It serves a mix of both international and local dishes. The chef turns out mouth-watering village style rice & curry dishes at the request of guests. The hotel does not have a liquor license and therefore, does not serve alcohol.  Guests are permitted to bring their own with no corkage fees applied. Every room has a minibar fridge.

The staff are friendly, professional, ever helpful and take great care of the guests.

If you’re looking to travel to Hikkaduwa on your next holiday, we suggest you drop by the Lazy Koala for accommodations.
