Colombo Music Festival (Day 2).

The Colombo Music Festival is exploding our events calendar. We’ve just got Day 2 together, on the day itself. There are some really interesting shows today. Here’s a breakdown by time:

All Day (10 AM – 10 PM)

Open Air Concerts (Waters Edge) – All day, you can see acts like local RnB star Ashanthi, a cappella act Voice Print, and many more.

3 – 4:30 PM

Classical And Romantic Music (Waters Edge) – this show features classically trained artists like Dinali David and international artists like Warren Lee.

4 PM

Pranaam (Sivan Kovil) – this concert brings great Indian artists to the beautiful Sivan Kovil in Kotahena.  Also one of the more affordable shows at Rs. 500, though tickets are limited. Indian music, kinda devotional but, based on their videos, should be modern and driving.

6 – 7:30 PM

Classical Works (Waters Edge) – if you’re at the Edge for the 4:30 show, you could just hang around for more classical music at 6. This features local artists like Ramya De Livera Perera on piano and Sureka Amarasinghe on flute.

6:30 – 9:00 PM

Oriental Heritage (National Museum) – another mix of Indian/Asian music in an iconic space, this show features international and local artists in the beautiful Colombo National Museum.

7 – 9 PM

Rock-A-Fest (Day 1) (British School Auditorium) – Colombo’s intense rock and metal scene gets a spot it this, day one of a two day showing at the British School Auditorium. Features local legend Stigmata.

7 – 9:30 PM

Jazz At The Dutch (Dutch Hospital) – Colombo’s hottest hangout (Dutch Hospital, near the World Trade Center) will feature music from Koei Tanaka (Harmonica) and Shigeru Sawamura (Keyboard).

7 – 10 PM

Living Legends In Popular Music (Nelum Pokuna Theatre) –  Colombo’s new Chinese built theatre sees some action with poppy local favorites like Mirage, Noeline Hunter, Geoffrey Fernando and many more.

8:30 – 10 PM

Feel The Beat (Waters Edge) – this should be intense. Electric and regular violinists Dr. Eugene Draw and Moon Baziz play some extremely modern music on their own, but mixed with the scores of drummers from Elephant Foot and Beat Drummers, it should be a powerful show.
