2022 has arrived and it brings along a plethora of movies and so, it promises to be a blockbuster year, at least in the film Industry. Many movies that were initially planned to be released in 2020, 2021 were postponed with the many waves of Covid-19. What all this led to is a 2022 jam-packed with high end, high quality and of course, highly entertaining movies throughout the year. So, in this list, we will be listing the top 5 movies to look forward to, in no particular order.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Release date – May 6th
This just HAS to be in this list, especially after the recent hype and success of the Spiderman movie. This is the continuation of the Marvel post-Avengers Multiverse storyline after Spiderman: No Way Home. The cast comprises of Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Rachel McAdams as well as Elizabeth Olson, appearing as Wanda Maximoff and there also is the possibility of some more ‘surprises’ in the mix, cause it’s not a Marvel movie without them 😉 .
Batman
Release date – March 4th
This is potentially the most anticipated movie of the lot, mainly due to the success and brilliance of the previous Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. Starring Robert Pattinson as Batman and Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman as well as Paul Dano, Colin Farell and Jeffrey Wright, the expectations are sky high for this movie as the DC Comics attempt to retaliate to Marvel’s recent success with this as well as several other movies.
Thor: Love and Thunder
Release date – July 8th
Another blockbuster Marvel movie is on the cards for 2022 in the form of Thor: Love and Thunder. It follows a different storyline to what happened in Spiderman (probably linked in the end though). It promises to be an epic film for an epic character in the MCU. This is a direct sequel to Thor: Ragnarok and will comprise a star studded cast including Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, Matt Damon and Tessa Thompson among others.
Killers of the Flower Moon
Release date – TBC
Stepping away from the CGI screens of Marvel and DC, we have Killers of the Flower Moon, based on David Grann’s non-fiction book of the same name regarding the brutal murders of the Osage tribe in the 1920’s. Directed by Martin Scorsese, this will bring forth a golden combination of Leonardo Di Caprio and Robert De Niro. You really can’t go wrong with that combination, especially under the direction of Scorsese, who has worked with both of them separately on numerous occasions. The cast will also include Brendan Fraser, Lily Gladstone and Jesse Plemons as well. This sure has all the looks of being another cinematic masterpiece from Scorsese.
The Northman
Release date – April 8th
Directed by Robert Eggers, The Northman has a huge following, particularly after its trailer. Starring Alexander Skarsgård, Willem Dafoe, Nicole Kidman, Anya Taylor-Joy and Björk as well, this follows the story of an Icelandic Viking prince, hellbent on revenge. This looks to be an extremely intense and thrilling movie with amazing visuals and a gripping storyline.
