The last weekend of June is here. If you haven't already busted your salary (or haven't got it at all, yet), the best method to have an entertaining weekend would be lying on your bed and binge-watching the last two seasons of The Stranger Things (season 3 is coming, yo!).
On the other hand, if you have some money to spare, these are our recommendations for the weekend.
If you live around Dehiwala and looking for some super Sri Lankan food spread this weekend, Karapincha is the safest bet. From Ambul Thiyal, Elu Mas Kaluwata to Kaju Maaluwa and Hathmaaluwa, they've got all your favourites. The pricing may look high at a glance, but when you compare it with the portion size, flavour and the ambience, it's totally worth it.
Hari Bao does delicious baozis, filled with chicken, pork and pulled jackfruit. If finding the will to go out this weekend is a problem, why not order them up to your doorstep? Available on Uber Eats.
Cafe Kumbuk has made its way into a new venue down Urban Island. Vegan and vegetarian food is their speciality, and they do a fine job at that.
How about some Indian food this weekend? Spice Coast down Marine Drive is a restaurant known for their Indian fare, but they also have a separate menu featuring a bunch of Chinese-inspired dishes. Their biriyani isn't the best there is, but the Paneer Butter Masala - Butter Naan combo pretty darn good!
If you haven't been to Sugarcube yet, you haven't tried the best cheesecake in Colombo. Sugarcube's Blueberry Cheesecake sets the bar so high for the cheesecake scene in Colombo and even after all these years, it still remains consistently good. Crafted with Philadelphia cream cheese, this one is deliciously tarty, fluffy and incredibly creamy. There's a thick layer of coulis that carries some chunky bits of juicy blueberries, which burst into flavours with every bite, while the buttery graham cracker base adds a swirl of sweetness to the whole thing.
Colombo's isso central - Isso is serving breakfast now. Even if you're not a morning person, we sincerely hope that this is enough motivation for you to get up early during this weekend. But mind you, this one is a bit expensive option for breakfast. Their Lankan breakfast spread comes with hoppers, seeni sambol, pol sambol and kiri hodi, and you can couple them with fish/prawn curry. You can just go ahead with the lunch/dinner menu too, comprised of isso cooked in many interesting ways, or some fiery Lobster Biriyani, perhaps?
