In our hectic, noisy urban environment, stress is all-pervading. Wouldn’t it be great if we could just take a break every now and then, to calm down in the middle of our daily buzz? Indeed it would be, and the good news is that it's actually possible, and easy too! The method is called «Autogenic Training». It is practiced by silently repeating simple formulas in a systematic way, at several short intervals during the day.
This method was developed in the 1920s by Dr. I. H. Schultz, a German neurologist, and has since scientifically proven to be a reliable curative and preventative method for many stress related conditions. Most of all, «auto- genic training» has gained popularity because it effectively reduces the high levels of stress, to which we are all exposed, without any external help. The training is not associated with any religion or philosophy, and is practiced by individuals of all walks of life throughout the world.
Regular daily practice helps to reduce hyper- activity and restlessness, fears and anxieties. It strengthens confidence and self-esteem, and clears your mind.
As course participant, you learn two formulas per session to complete the practice, as well as relevant background information. A portion of each session is reserved for exchange and questions arising from applying the technique.
By the end of the course, you will be in a position to practice «Autogenic Training» on your own. This method of relaxation is in fact, as suggested by the word «autogenic», completely self generated.
Thomas Imboden, a Swiss national who has lived in Colombo for eight years, brings with him 40 years of experience in various relaxation and meditation techniques. He holds a teaching certificate from the Institute of Applied Psychology in Zurich, and has conducted many Easy Relaxation courses for adults and children in Switzerland and Sri Lanka.
Saturday, 3 sessions
9 am to 12 noon / 2 to 6 pm / 8 to 10 pm
Sunday, 2 sessions
10 am to 12 noon, 2 to 6 pm
It is important to attend all sessions to achieve the maximum relaxation effect.
At the end of each session, you will be handed out the module content with instructions for home practice.
Please wear comfortable clothes, which do not restrict your movements and breathing. A training suit is ideal.
