Exploring ‘urban music’ through a mash-up of Colombo’s sub-cultures including Sinhala, Tamil, English rappers, urban poets and singer-songwriters at Castle Hotel – a watering hole that has stood the test of time, but will soon be demolished.

The night will include performances by:

Amila Sandaruwan

A Sinhala singer-songwriter from Meepe, Amila came to most people's attention with the off-kilter song "John Cena", Amila started out a thespian involved in Sinhala theatre productions. Today, he's developed his own unique musical style, and he's exceptional for writing and composing his own material, a feat that is uncommon in the Sinhala music scene.

Imaad Majeed

Imaad writes and makes video for Yamu, but he's also a poet, rapper and singer-songwriter, and the curator/organizer of Kacha Kacha. He's known for his knack for controversial subject matter and witty wordplay. While he's enjoyed one hit single on the Yes Homegrown Top 15 countdown back in 2012, his music is mostly heard either live or online.

There will also be performances by two rappers from Tamizh Rap United, as well as rapper KK from Kottawa and Colombo 7's Nikhil D'Almeida.

More artists will be announced soon, so keep an eye on their event page. There will be a special guest appearance by Buddhi De Mel. Entrance is free. This event has been crowd-funded, with half of the costs covered by sponsors Katha, Buzzbird and Bang Bang, and the other half covered by Kacha Kacha's patrons.

The night will mark the last event to be hosted at the Castle Hotel, as the location is said to be claimed by the UDA soon.
