Head on over to The Keg at Excel World for a fresh dose of Rock N' Roll by Colombo's hardest rock bands.
Having started in 2013, Rock N' Roll is a series of concerts put together by a group of enthusiasts hellbent on keeping this genre of music alive and kicking in Colombo. Featuring a line-up of local musicians, the event strikes a balance of tributes to the greats and original music. The next one is on Saturday, October 24, at The Keg Pub & Restaurant, Excel World.
SOUL has quickly become one of the most sought after live acts in Colombo, having built up a reputation with their regular gig at Q'baa and appearances at other gigs over the past year. This year, they added three original songs to their repertoire, ranging from reggae to alternative rock, with catchy lyrics and the husky, soulful voice of frontman Dave Roberts. Just listen to their cover of Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song.
SAKWALA CHAKRAYA has built a reputation based solely on their original music, calling their sound post-colonial-trance-punk. With musicians from the fusion band Thriloka and the local rock n' roll legend Prasanna Abeyesekara in the line-up, they've got what it takes to throw a sound from one end of the spectrum to another and a frontman who'll have you doubting your sanity as they take you along for the ride with them.
Lustful Gaze is another band to keep an ear and two eyes out for, particularly given that they're geared up to play glam rock. From the leather jackets to the tight pants, these guys go all the way to bring back the 80's with not only their sound, but also the theatrics. KALM, Resurrection and Rebel Exodus are all good bands in their own right, and will be playing on the night.
Yohani is all set to kickstart the evening with Joan Jett's I Love Rock N' Roll. Talal, a singer-songwriter who can rap, sing and scat, will be performing his bluesy medleys with a sprinkling of his own originals. Nandun will also be performing.
You can head on over as early as 4PM if you'd like to meet the crew and get to know the musicians. The show usually kicks off closer to 6PM and winds down by 11PM. Excel World is on T B Jayah Mawatha, and The Keg is just inside the premises.
