The SHOW (Stop Harassment Of Women) Campaign Launch is taking place on Wednesday, 25th of September at Vihara Maha Devi Open Air Theater from 2 to 6 pm. The Sri Lanka Unite team will provide information on the campaign and there will be a 'Walk Against Harassment of Women' at 5pm.
The campaign itself will consist of going on buses in the Colombo and Gampaha districts and making passengers aware of why harassment against women is wrong and how women can contact the relevant authorities when it happens.
SHOW You Care is a campaign that aims to mobilize youth to take concerted action raising awareness on the issue of harassment of women in public places and to bring attention of the public to the existing laws and the legal measures relevant to harassment. Engaging serious thought at the policy making level so that the existing laws are implemented and that the policies are reshaped and strengthened.
Sri Lanka Unites started a week of campaigning under the name of ‘SHOW You Care’ (SHOW= Stop Harassment of Women), from the 25th to the 29th of June 2012. Over 200 volunteers boarded 1,248 buses within the course of 5 days, in all the main bus routes in Colombo addressing over 35,000 commuters with our message.
There's a whole lot of local celebrities like Murali, Randir, Sangeetha Weeraratne who have endorsed the event as well.
