This exhibition tells the story of forty years of dedication to Landscape Design, and which nevertheless have never been properly acknowledged in Sri Lanka’s cultural sphere. Thus this exhibition is long due.

There is an ideal forest in Laki Senanayake’s mind that is the subject of most of his oeuvre, the fantasy space where he goes and fetches an idea every time he needs one. He has sketched and drawn the forest meticulously, drawn imaginary ones, sculpted animals and creatures that will inhabit it, and has gone and proposed real forests in landscape design projects. The first three activities have been widely recorded and published, but not the landscape designs. There is a real lacuna in the historiography of Laki Seneneyake, and this exhibit reverts that situation by going beyond Diyabubula.

While it has implied thorough research, the exhibition is an artful endeavour that has selected those projects from several archives that tell the story most powerfully and efficiently, is incisive and profound, and is a real meditation on the principles and patterns among the landscape projects themselves, and demonstrate how very, if not extremely consequent these environments are with the principles developed in his drawings and sculptures, while contextualizing Laki within the culture of landscape design of Sri Lanka."
