7 movies to look forward to in 2023.

With the passing of another year, brings us a set of new movies to cherish and enjoy.  2022, for the most part, was a very inconsistent year in terms of movies and entertainment, with many disappointing movies as well as a few great ones. On paper, 2023 certainly looks like a much stronger year, and with this article; we’ll be bringing you seven of those new movies to look forward to.

1. Oppenheimer

There is little doubt that this is the most anticipated movie of the lot. Directed by Christopher Nolan, that alone ought to make it a good movie however, couple that with a cast consisting of Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Emily Blunt, and so many more superb actors, this movie is bound to be one for the ages. It follows the story of Physicist J Robert Oppenheimer, who infamously led the development of the atomic bomb. However, trust Nolan to ensure this will not be a straightforward story. Expect a lot of plot twists, great characters, performances, a nerve-racking storyline, and an overall great Christopher Nolan movie.

Release date – 21st July 2023

2. Dune Part 2

In the Science Fiction department, Dune part 2 is scheduled to come out during the latter part of the year and if the first movie was anything to go by, it’s also bound to be a spectacular movie. Dune 2 will also comprise an ensemble of extraordinarily talented actors such as Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Austin Butler, and Florence Pugh, and it is directed by Denis Villeneuve. It is a continuation of the novel of the previous storyline and circles around Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet), based on the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert.

Release date – 3rd November 2023

3. Barbie

There was a lot of talk about this movie ever since it was announced, from its release date being the same as Oppenheimer’s to the cast choices, everything about this movie just seemed to get people talking. Speaking of the cast, Margot Robbie will portray Barbie while Ryan Gosling will be Ken and there also will be Will Ferrell, Emma Mackey, and Simu Liu among others. Directed by the talented Greta Gerwig, It is categorised as a Comedy/ fantasy and will definitely be an interesting watch.

Release Date – 21st July 2023

4. Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning

A new Mission Impossible movie is on the horizon this year as fan favourite Tom Cruise will be back in action as Ethan Hunt in the seventh installment of this franchise. People might get a bit exasperated at the thought of a seventh Mission Impossible movie, but you can’t deny that the quality of the film and the overall plot has only gotten better and better with each movie. Familiar faces Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, and Ving Rhames will be joining the cast as well as the new addition of Hayley Atwell. Trust this franchise to deliver a blockbuster movie that’ll keep us on the edge of our seats.

Release Date – 14th July 2023

5. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

After a very underwhelming year from Marvel studios, they will be hoping to begin their redemption and go back to the glory days of the Avengers series with a new Ant-man movie. This is bound to continue along the main storyline of Phase 5, where they explore the multiverse. Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lily will be joined by Samuel L. Jackson, Bill Murray, Jonathan Majors, Kathryn Newton, and many more. While the hype and excitement for Marvel has gone down a notch, it is still very far-fetched to assume that people just don’t care about this anymore and dismiss these movies.

Release Date – 17th February 2023

6. John Wick: Chapter 4

The legendary hitman is back; Keanu Reeves is back in action as John Wick in the fourth instalment of the franchise as he fights against the most dangerous underworld criminals with an ever-rising bounty on his head. Familiar faces such as Ian McShane and Lawrence Fishburne join Keanu Reeves with new faces such as Donnie Yen, Scott Adkins, and Bill Skarsgard adding to what promises to be an action-packed, exhilarating neo-noir blockbuster.

Release Date – 24th March 2023

7. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Friendly neighbourhood superhero Spider-Man is back in his animated form as Miles Morales in this exciting project by Marvel. Voiced by Shameik Moore, joining him in this endeavour are Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar Isaac, Daniel Kaluuya, and Jake Johnson among others. This movie also explores the multiverse of Spider-Man. The first movie of this franchise was fantastic and was critically acclaimed by critics and fans alike. There’s nothing stopping this also of being of the same calibre or even higher.

Release Date -2nd June 2023

That is the end of our list! This year has serious potential of being one of the best years of recent times, in terms of movies. This is due to the quality of the movies we mentioned and also due to the sheer number of good movies, we, unfortunately, missed out on when making this list.

Another great thing is that Scope Cinemas will be screening all seven of these movies! So all you have to do is head on over to one of their cinema complexes and watch the movie (After buying a ticket of course. And maybe some popcorn as well). It’s that easy! Enjoy and I wish you all the best for the upcoming year.
