Tucked away in the heart of Colombo, BLAC Bagatelle is more than just another café, it’s a thoughtfully curated experience born from a simple but meaningful idea.
A couple-led vision, driven by a deep appreciation for the original BLAC concept, sought to bring something Colombo lacked: a space where nature and dining seamlessly coexist. That vision led to the creation of the iconic Glass House, a lush, green sanctuary that feels both tranquil and refreshing. Despite being surrounded by greenery, the space remains cool and comfortable thanks to air-conditioning, making it ideal for Colombo’s climate.
The indoor café tells a different story. Built within a house that’s over 100 years old; the architecture has been carefully preserved. Original design elements remain intact, while subtle modern touches elevate the space by striking a perfect balance between heritage and contemporary comfort.
What We Tried
Jaffna Curry Kottu (Mutton) – Rs. 2750
The mutton was undeniably the highlight; tender, aromatic, and beautifully spiced. However, the kottu itself leaned slightly mushy and salty, which took away from what could have been THE standout dish.
Mongolian Chicken Noodles – Rs. 2300
A MUST-try. The noodles were succulent and perfectly cooked, coated in a rich, well-balanced sauce. Mongolian-style dishes are known for their deep, savory profile (umami flavor) and this dish delivered exactly that satisfying depth of flavor.
Herb Rice – Rs. 1200
Surprisingly exceptional. Light, fluffy, and fragrant, this rice proves you don’t always need curries to enjoy a satisfying meal. It’s simple yet executed perfectly.
Potato Wedges – Rs. 1400
Don’t underestimate this one. These weren’t just ordinary wedges, they were seasoned generously and paired with a bold dipping sauce that was spicy, tangy, and incredibly addictive. Easily one of the most enjoyable sides.
Desserts & Beverages
1. Blueberry Cheesecake – Rs. 1800
2. Latte (Hot / Iced) – Rs. 950
We wrapped up with their Blueberry Cheesecake, and it did not disappoint. Creamy, silky, and indulgent. It had that rich, luxurious texture you’d expect from a well-made cheesecake.
As for drinks, we tried both a latte and an iced latte which was decent.
