Chariot is an old Colombo standard now under new management. The changes seem to be going well. We only tried a rice and curry but the service, location and general feel of the place is good.
Chariot has been known as a sort of Perera And Sons alternative, with the usual short eats, rice and curry, cakes, etc. I’d always perceived it as kinda downmarket, but under new management they’re moving distinctly up.
The Dehiwala outlet has poured cement, decent furniture, air, and light. It’s actually a bit surprising stepping in off the bustling Galle Road. They also have tablemats and cutlery and actual glassware, a stark departure from the usual short eat shop. The staff is also attentive and nice.
The prices, however, don’t seem to have moved much, Rs. 170 for a chicken/fish rice and curry. The food is quite nice, not to greasy or filling. Not exceptional, but pretty good. We look forward to trying their other items, like Jaffna food, milk hoppers and desserts.
The new Chariot is definitely worth a gander. This branch is on Galle Road, Dehiwala. They also have branches in Bambalapitiya and in Havelock Town.
