Coffee Bar (Kahuna Hotel Resort).

After our fantastic lunch at The Hideout, we went looking for something sweet alongside a cupful of caffeine before heading back to Colombo; and thus found ourselves at this Coffee Bar by Kahuna Hotel Resort.

Food & Drinks

Their menu is actually displayed at the entrance, which is quite helpful to make a decision on what to get before walking in. They serve continental breakfast, as well as a range of sandwiches and crepes, which you can pair up with juices, lassi, coffee (hot/cold) and milkshakes.

Every sandwich at Kahuna features their 1-foot long homemade baguette bun. We opted for the Cheese and Tomato Sandwich (Rs. 550).

We couldn't believe the amount of cheese in this one. There were lots and lots of cheddar cheese, while the tomato counterpart is limited to a thin layer of paste, slathered on the bottom half of the bun.

The bread itself was wonderful. Presenting a crispy crust, it was soft, airy and light from the inside. Most of all, it was incredibly fresh. We loved it.
The Nutella Crepe (Rs. 500), however, didn't quite live up to our expectations. It was basically a folded Sri Lankan style pancake, with a very small amount of Nutella slathered in between.
The Pineapple Lassi (Rs. 450) was a winner. The tart, yoghurty notes of the drink were beautifully balanced out by the sweetness of the pineapple while giving an extra acidic kick to it. A refreshing treat of a drink on a hot day.

I wish I could see this Carajillo with its layers, but in terms of flavour, it delivered. From what we gathered, Coffee Bar uses an Italian blend (not illy), which they ground at the cafe itself.

Smoothened up with a shot of whisky, this espresso was strong, not burnt and absolutely rich in flavour. Priced at Rs. 400.

Ambience & Service

The Coffee Bar lies on the open veranda of the Kahuna Hotel Resort. Gushed with trees, grass and potted plants, the atmosphere here is calm and absolutely peaceful. Aside from the wooden furniture, they've got a couple of hammocks for you to relax and read a book until your food/drinks get ready.

The staff was efficient and helpful; no complaints here too.

Conclusion

With good coffee and freshly baked bread with generous stuffings in the most quaint ambience, this is a good spot to kickstart your day, or to have a quiet evening while vacationing in Una.
