Palm Beach Hotel is located in Mount Lavinia, with rooms starting from about Rs. 7200.
The décor at this mid-sized hotel is, er, interesting – forlorn statues gaze towards the large, blue swimming pool, but the garden does have some decent shrubs and bushes containing it from the outside world.
The rooms seem clean and functional. Although I didn’t have a stay in one, I did peek inside one, long enough to take a few snapshots.
From the cafe next to the pool, I ordered a sandwich and something to drink. The sandwich was OK, arriving after the standard 20 minute wait. It is a fairly okay place to come for a swim however – at Rs. 500 per person, it costs half as much as it would at the Mount Lavinia Hotel.
All in all this place has a large, clean pool and the rooms tidy and well kept. The hotel also includes food so you don’t need to head out for that.
Quick Summary (first impression only, I didn’t stay in a room)
Ambiance: 2/5
Cleanliness: 4/5 (room and bathroom are clean)
Staff: 3.5/5 (the people I encountered were very helpful).
Pool: I have to say that (at least when I visited) the pool looked clean enough to drink out of.
