If you don’t already know, Hambantota is on the news and it isn’t good news that’s coming from over there. Over 1000,000 people are affected by a major drought which is said to be the worst in the last 14 years. In response to this, LEADS, a local non government organisation is collecting water. Specifically 5 liter bottles. Their goal is to collect 10,000 bottles, which will be sent to the locations most affected by the drought.
You can help. Collect 5 liter water bottles in your homes, work places, religious places, social groups and hand it over to LEADS who will transport it to the places in dire need of it. All you have to do is, collect the bottles and give LEADS a buzz and they will pick it up from you or if you are in Dehiwela, they are down Hospital Road, Dehiwela.
LEADS (Lanka Evangelical Alliance Development Service) is a national NGO operating involved in humanitarian aid, community development and child protection. Their child protection unit is known as ESCAPE. They operate mainly in Crisis, Children and Community.
So here’s a challenge to get involved in, get a whole bunch of people from your school, or office, home and donate water.
If you wish to donate funds for the cause.
