If you want your Burrito so big that it buries you, we suggest you try MUY GRANDE (pronounced mooee grahn-deh). As their name suggests, their Burritos are BIG and really tasty.
We spoke to Aruni a very bubbly and friendly personality from MUY GRANDE about their cloud kitchen, and here is what she had to say.
Their story
“My husband Irshan is from Sri Lanka and I am Aruni from Zambia. I came to Sri Lanka in 2012 and met Irshan during that same year. During that time Irshan worked as a Travel Consultant and I started working with an International Volunteer organization. But with the pandemic, many Projects Abroad destinations closed down. So, in January 2021, Irshan came up with the bright idea, ‘why not try our hands in making the food we love?’ That led to us opening our very own cloud kitchen as a way to stay busy during the pandemic. It took us a year to understand the Sri Lankan taste preferences and understand the market we were catering to. So, in January 2022, we found our “calling” and here we are. Our clientele, have been kind about their feedback and helpful in a way that has really made us improve and be able to deliver not only the food we love but also in a manner that would make people smile. Our flavors and large portions are what we are getting to be well known for, and we love that we are able to touch people we have never met, just with our food at Muy Grande.
We have so much to be thankful for and so many people who blessed us with love and support. Family, the family we’ve gained from the time I came to Sri Lanka and the growing family since we began our online restaurant journey have been nothing short of amazing! Muy Grande’s name and concept was born from such an extraordinary love showered on us by food photographer Charith Heenpalla, who not only took our food photos, but was instrumental in our rebranding.
– Aruni Jayawardane
The restaurant is owned by Aruni Jayawardane & Irshan Sourjah.
We did get to sample some juicy burritos and here is what we have to say.
- Beef Chimichanga
Filled with an infusion of Mexican rice, flavorful but yet tender, the beef and cheese with beans was indeed a treat. The outer layer was crispy but not too crunchy. It is basically a deep-fried burrito which was actually quite filling. Not spicy at all when compared to the Sri Lankan spice intake.
- Breakfast Burrito
The Breakfast Burrito was loaded with sausage, cheese and the right amount of egg made into a soft scrambled egg, but not too eggy, it was an absolute delight. If you plan to just laze in bed the whole day just so that you can relax and rewind or you just love having breakfast anytime of the day, the Breakfast Burrito should be on your ‘Must Try’ list.
- Smothered XL Beef Burrito
This is your classic Beef Burrito with Spanish rice and beans, smothered in a smokey enchilada sauce and topped with Pico de gallo. Aruni mentioned to us that they marinate the Beef for nearly 12 hours for the burritos and they are most generous with the amount of flavorful beef in the burritos. We loved this. The beef was soft and not chewy, not too spicy. If you are a meat lover and want to satisfy your Mexican street food cravings, we suggest you try this,
